Who can forget the days of Earl Ness, Bobby Marcis, Ted Peters, Red Maurer, '80' Vanstratten,' '7' junior, Jimmy Ness, Mickey & Dave Degroot, Bob White, & should I go on with the list? I was 6 to 12 years old when my dad would bring us to Depere for Saturday night races. I it is still all so clear to visualize the old coupes racing. One note that still rings out from the grandstand: EARL NESS--YAAAAY! Bobby Marcis-- BOOOOO! Sound familiar?

When I was a kid, I lived nest door to Harlan and Marie. My best friend was Earl's niece, Joann. My Dad was a huge race fan and every weekend, we went to the Brown County Fairgrounds. My favorite was Earl in his old beat up "0" car. I don't remember the year, but he came out with a new car. White with Red accents and a big red "0" on it. They always raced on the 1/4 mile oval. Earl was always my favorite. I grew up and didn't go with my dad to the races too much. He took my brothers instead. I will always remember Earl Ness and his Flying 0. Godspeed Earl, go for that trophy! I am sure you have one a great one!
