Simply the best teacher I ever had. A wonderful man.

I had Mr. Bartelt for a freshman English class and again as a Senior when I took The Bible as Literature. Mr. Bartelt was my favorite teacher at West High School. I knew that when I got an A from him I had truly earned it! I am so sorry to learn of his passing..

Dear Betsy,
I am sorry for your loss of your cousin, Tom. I knew Fritz and Ruth, who were neighbors and good friends of my parents, Don and Jerrie Gleason, in Green Bay (Allouez).
God bless you with comfort, peace and good memories. My prayers are with you.
Sincere sympathy,
Connie Gleason, CSJ and Nanci Gleason Maes

What a great teacher! I had Mr. Bartelt for both homeroom and a very interesting class called The Bible as Literature, which was a breakthrough course for Madison in the 70s. He was always very engaging with his students, and looking back at my 1976 West High yearbook, there were many students who listed themselves as members of the "Willy" Bartlelt Fan Club. RIP!
