Mardis, Frances M.
October 20, 1928 - October 19, 2021
Frances M. Mardis died on October 19, 2021 at Heartland Nursing and Rehab after a period of declining health from a fall.
She was born on October 20,1928 at St. Leo's Hospital to Anthony ("Son") T. Murphy and Beatrice ("Bea") V. Murphy. She was preceded in death by husband of 68 years Alfred (AL) E. Mardis, Sr., son Alfred (Eddie) E. Mardis Jr., brothers Thomas A. Murphy, Sr., Harry E. Murphy, Richard L. Murphy and sister Betty Smith.
Frances was one of those forgotten heroes of WWII. While Al was serving in the army with the 82nd Airborne, she was a homemaker. They settled in Greensboro, raising two boys that both became accomplished men. She worked for Vick's Chemical which later became Proctor & Gamble until she retired. For many of you who lived around here, you might remember those blue jars and the welcome aroma when it was used to clear a cold. We all were proud of her. She was a loving person, and anyone who knew her loved her.
She was proud of her family and loved seeing and spending time with them. She is survived by her son Charles (Chuck) Mardis and his wife Cindy of McLeansville, NC; her grandchildren Anthony (Tony) Mardis, Christy Mardis, Steven Mardis, of Greensboro, Dr. Stacey Mardis Holcomb, husband Dan of Summerfield, NC, Dana Mardis Hilliard, husband Brian of Browns Summit, NC, Jiilian Mardis Staub and husband Jerry of Bluffton, SC, Stephanie R. Mardis of Greensboro, NC; her great-grandchildren Tanner Holcomb, Lucas and Ella Hilliard, Jacob and Jack Staub, Ava Mardis, Jackson Mardis, Alex and Ian Mardis. They were her greatest joy.
Frances was a long-time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she found a loving group of caring people to fellowship with. She was active in the Card Ministry, always trying to send uplifting cards. The cards seem to find the right people at just the right time. They will be missed.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for, called, and prayed for Frances. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3918 Baylor St. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. just prior to the service at the church.
