On this 19th Anniversary of 9/11, thank you Tim for your ultimate service to us and all the fun at Breezy Point on West Court. You and Tara were always so friendly and so much fun. Tara & children, I am still so heartbroken for you and your family. God bless Tim and thank you again for your service.

Remembering Captain Tim Stackpole today. Thank You for your service and sacrifice.
September 11, 2018
17 years is a long time yet and although the memories and horror or 9/11 diminishes, we will never forget our heroes. For me, I wore Captain Timothy Stackpole's bracelet on my arm for 11 years. I had to put it away as the copper was weakening and I was afraid it would break and I would lose it. It remains in my jewelry box, I will treasure it always. I am so sorry he had to leave his family behind to become my hero.
September 12, 2016
Timothy Stackpole is The firefighter I adopted soon after hearing his story and the selfless way he lived and lost his life. Over the years when I meet a firefighter I tell the story and recommend that they visit Tim's site as well as the stories of all the HEROES, real heroes who live their lives in service to others.
December 15, 2015
I read that one of Captain Stackpole's son is now on FDNY. Captain Stackpole is a true american hero that words alone cannot describe.

God bless the Stackpole family.
September 29, 2014
Captain Stackpole,

You played football with my father at St. Francis Prep for the legendary Vince O'Connor. I grew up hearing the hallowed stories of the red and blue and in high school I wore 43 to honor Zeek. I attended Chaminade where I had the honor and privilege to face off against your son, Brendan, and your nephew, Tim, on the gridiron and lacrosse field. Brendan and Tim are exceptional young men, and I always shook their hand thanking them for everything their family has done.

I have read your story, and visited the 9/11 memorial where your name is etched amongst some of America's finest heroes. I know you're up in heaven, and you should know you have left a powerful legacy that will be sustained by those who came after you. As a young man, I hope to emulate your passion for family and service and be a leader in this world, with the intent on making a lasting impact.

"For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life."

I was never fortunate enough to meet Captain Tim Stackpole or his family. Through genealogy research I know though that we are related.

I am so proud to share not only his name, but the fact that I'm also a firefighter in Ottawa, Canada.

Best wishes to his family
February 20, 2014
To the children of Timothy Stackpole,
I read my two year old son bedtime stories of great men and events to guide him and remind myself of all that is good in this world. I couldn't help but cry while I read a story about your father to him... He makes me want to be a better husband, father and firefighter. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I promise you, he will not be forgotten in the Pierce home.
October 07, 2013
I participated in the 9/11 Stair Climb going up 110 flights of stairs and was given Captain Stackpole's picture to wear around my neck. In reading articles about him his character, integrity, dedication, strength and commitment are evident.
September 13, 2013
This year I was fortunate enough to take captain stackpole name on the back of my coat and his picture around my neck up 110 flights this year I am a firefighter in sacramento and feel truly honored to carry his name up. I will continue to carry him every year.
September 11, 2013
Mrs. Stackpole, I am very sorry for your lost. I know how dangerous it is to be a firefighter because I am one, but I must say I dont know if I would had been brave enough, as your husband was, to return to work after the 1998 fire. He was very brave. Reading articles on him has brought many tears to my eyes only to think the pain you and your family must have felt. I will always pay my respects to your husband for risking his life for this country to protect others. May God bless you and your family in every way.
September 11, 2013
To the family of Timothy Stackpole,

My dad seems to think we are distantly related. It is sad to realize that we would not have known about each other but for this unspeakable tragedy. From the Stackpole family in the New Haven area of CT, our prayers are with you today and always.
September 11, 2013
DEAR MRS. STACKPOLE I WAS IN GOOD SHEPARD WITH TIM HE WAS TRULY AMAZING MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ON THIS DAY
September 11, 2013
Though we are not related -- as nearly as I can tell -- my family is honored to share a last name with such a hero.
September 10, 2013
I met Capt.Stackpole when he was being honored by Howard Golden, Bklyn boro President at Coney island and attended his funeral after 9-11-01 always in my prayers.
September 12, 2012
To Captain Stackpole's family -- I am a firefighter's daughter and so am always deeply touched with all of the 9/11 memorials and tributes. I cannot explain why but I will always see your loved one's name at random times when viewing or watching anything to do with 9/11.

His story of bravery during the events of 1998 and on 9/11 are simply amazing. How proud you must be of such a wonderful, giving person!

My tears shed today were especially for Captain Stackpole and you, his family. My Dad passed away a year before 9/11. I hope he was there to help a fellow Brother home. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
September 12, 2012
We will never forget, not today, not tomorrow, not ever! Your brother firefighters think of you often, always with respect.
September 11, 2012
I proudly wear your name on my copper remembrance bracelet so that I will never forget, as well as for others who see it and will also, always remember.

"Firefighting"

Firefighting is not about lights and sirens, It's about saving lives and property.
Firefighting is not about self glorification, It's about sacrificing for others.
Firefighting is not a nine to five gig, It's about catching the rig at three a.m.
Firefighting is not about comfort, It's about putting your body through hell night after night because dammit, you love what you do.
Firefighting is not for everyone, but for those who answer the alarm, It's the best job in the world!

This poem is dedicated to Timothy Stackpole. Rest well my brother.
We will never forget!
September 13, 2011
Dear Captain Timothy Stackpole's Family,

It was my Honor to have the name Captain Timothy Stackpole placed on my Helmet for the Milwaukee Fire Department 343 NYFD Fallen Firefighters Memorial here in Milwaukee, WI. While reading about your story of coming back from a career ending injury, you are an inspiration to ALL of your brothers and sisters left here without you. Captain Timothy Stackpole will forever be etched on my helmet and my saddened heart.
September 12, 2011
Dear Captain Timothy Stackpole,
You will always be remembered. Not only on 9-11, but every day of the year. Your memorial bracelet keeps you and yours, in my thoughts and prayers. I wear it proudly.
September 11, 2011
Dear Stackpole family,
You have been in my thoughts for ten years... and especially today. After 9 11 01 my mom sent away for memorial bracelets and I received one that read Captain Timothy Stackpole. (They were sent randomly). shortly thereafter we found out a family friend, Andy, sang at his funeral. The following year my mom sent away for a memorial tree... also sent with a firefighter to remember. Once again we read Timothy Stackpole. I have felt a close connection since, and want you to know your family is constantly in my prayers. May Timothy's memory be eternal.
September 11, 2011
Philippans 2:4 (reminds us)... Keeping and eye, not in personal interest upon just your own matters, but also in personal interest upon those of the others.
Such an astonishing display of selflessness Captain Timothy Stackpole shared with the world. May we remember and try to follow examples of such heroic people. With warm thoughts and love to his family!
September 09, 2011
Dear Tara and family,
On this 10th year anniversary of 9/11 the only words of comfort I can offer are;

"To die but not to perish is to be eternally present"

I know Tim is eternally present in our hearts and minds.
Love from a Good Shepherd classmate who enjoyed playing "Punch ball & freeze tag" with Tim in our Brooklyn school yard.

May God grant you all peace at this difficult time.
September 09, 2011
Dear Katie, and the entire Stackpole family. Thinking of you always, but especially at this time of the year. Remember to keep your head high and a smile on your face, as you look up towards heaven, so that your father, our hero, can get a better look at you. Katie, I love you and miss you and am so proud of the woman you have become! Your entire family is in my thoughts and in my prayers. Eternally in your debt,
Amanda Edison

To Captain Stackpole's Family, Thinking of you on his birthday. I know from online research that he would have turned 52 today. Thank you for sharing your memories and photos--and for giving me this opportunity to say, "I care."
December 25, 2010
To the Stackpole Family, may G-D bless all of you. His memory is an inspiration to people everywhere that they should never give up, but keep on moving forward even in the face of extreme difficulties. Captain Stackpole rest in peace, and Thank You for your service to the people of NYC.
September 11, 2010
I first learned of the heroic Timothy Stackpole from a newspaper article in the summer of 2001 which detailed his inspiring return to the Fire Department despite suffering severe burns. I was so moved that I called his home and spoke to his lovely wife, asking her to thank him from me. Only weeks later at Captain Stackpole's wake I presented Mrs Stackpole with a batch of letters from my daughter Kristen's 7th grade class, thanking him for his sacrifice. I am an educator and I promise to keep the memory of this extraordinary human being alive by retelling his story to students each year.
Thank you for keeping watch over us,Captain Stackpole.

During a September 11th ceremony this morning in Hilton Head, Sc I hear about Captain Stackpole and the amazing story of what he went through to remain a part of the fire service after suffering severe burns in a fire. His memory will always remain a source of motivation and pride within the fire service, and as an American. Never forget.
September 10, 2010
Even though I was Matty's little sister, Timmy always made me feel special. ALways taking interest in what was going on in my life. I will always rmember his warm hugs, big smile and joy for life. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I will never forget Timmy and how he impacted my life, as well as the whole Croke family.

To the Stackpole Family, I am thinking of you as the ninth anniversary of Tim's death approaches. My heartfelt thanks for giving me this opportunity to say, "I care." Please think of this entry as a hug from me.
September 06, 2010
Being out on the west coast during those most awful days following the attack on our Country was very hard for my family...we had a chance to donate and obtain memorial bracelets of the brave men and women who so bravely responded. I was honored and still wear the bracelet that was made in TIM's memory. I am proud to do so. God bless your family and may his memory be eternal +
May 07, 2010
Captain Stackpole family, You have my upmost respect. The life of our hero Captain Stackpole will not be forgotten. His dedication and committment to serving the public has established a new standard for me as a public servant. What a role model Captain Stackpole is for us all. May God bless you and keep you, may His countenance be upon your face!
February 25, 2010
To the Stackpole Family, I thought of you last Sunday when I saw the 60 Minutes story about the construction of the Ground Zero memorial being at a standstill.
February 12, 2010
Timmy was a great friend of mine but he was also one of the main reasons I joined the FDNY. Timmy and I played high school football together. My best memories of Timmy were when we were both Life Guards at a pool in queens during the summer of 1976. He was a super guy and I miss him deeply. Hughie Masterson
January 25, 2010
Thank you all for always keeping Timmy's memory alive. His birthday just passed and it is heartwarming to us that people remember. He was a very special man that touched many lives and we miss him every moment of everyday. He lived his life the way we all should, and the gift in that is, he is still touching lives all these years later.
Thank you for sharing your kind thoughts with us, it means so much to me and my children and family.
Love,
Tara Stackpole
January 24, 2010
Mrs. Stackpole and Family, I learned about your loss when I saw Cynthia McFadden interview you on ABC News soon after 9/11. I recently discovered this Guest Book. I've thought of you often, especially this past week, because I know from online research that Tim would have turned 51 last Monday. I have the greatest love and respect for firefighters and police officers because they not only risk their lives every day, they are Good Samaritans even when off duty, holding food drives, toy drives, and pancake breakfast fundraisers (for scholarships, athletic equipment and uniforms, etc.), to name just a few of their charitable efforts. My heartfelt thanks for sharing your memories--and for giving me this opportunity to say, "I care."
January 18, 2010
Tim may be gone but will truly never be forgotten...Much Love to Tara, the kids and the entire Stackpole Family.
December 28, 2009
I had the privilege of being Tim's FedEx delivery man. During his recovery for burns to his legs, I delivered FDNY documents to Tim and caught glimpses of him running around the neighborhood. Following 9/11, I had the grim task of delivering documents to Tara so the family would receive the well deserved benefits. In life, Tim was all over the neighborhood helping elderly with chores. In death, he remains a symbol of courage and love for family and country. Though Tim was too young, he accomplished so much. God Bless Tim and the entire Stackpole family.
October 21, 2009
Our days are so crowded and our hours so few- There's so little timeand so much to do. That the days fly by and are over and done. Before we have even hald begun. To do the things that we meant to do. But never have time to carry through... And how nice it would be if we stopped to say The things we feel in our hearts each day.
Whenever I stop and think of you, It makes me smile to know Thay you, my friend, are in my heart, Wherever I may go.
September 15, 2009
I had the honor of climbing in Captain Stackpole's memory on Sept 11, 2009 in Denver alongside 342 other brothers and sisters to remember the 343 fallen brothers. It was truly an honor. God Bless the Stackpole family.
September 11, 2009
Rest in Peace, Timothy. You will never be forgotten.
September 11, 2009
Hello Stackpole Family. I was very honored today to wear your family name on the back of my turnouts for a 9/11 tribute in Sacramento, California. Your husband and father was a very brave man. God Bless.
September 11, 2009
Hello Stackpole Family, I am with you today and everyday. Tim, I'm sure will be in the stands this Saturday and Sunday watching his boys against Holy Cross. Go Prep !!!
February 08, 2009
Dear Mrs. Stackpole,
I am sorry for your loss and the city of New York loss. In class we were reading about 9/11 and it got me to thinking about Timothy. My father had told me about him after the attacks, we were cousins. It makes me so proud to know that a member of my family was so brave. Especially after what he did in the fire of 1998. I am grateful to know his story, share it with others and know that he will forever be a hero in our hearts. God Bless you.
Sincerely,
Katelyn Stackpole
January 18, 2009
I didn't know Capt. Stackpole but I had heard of his courageous heroism in both 1998 and 2001 and vowed never to forget his selfless acts. When the wonderful heroism of the Hudson River airline pilot (Capt. Sullenberger) was revealed, I thought again about the burned fire captain newly returned to duty who went up into the Trade Center never to return. I am sad to say that I at first did not recall Capt. Stackpole's name despite my promise to myself. Fortunately, I had taken down a list of all the 343 FDNY hero dead of 9/11 and quickly found his name among them. The lesson for me is that the sacrifices of people like Capt. Stackpole will never be forgotten even by absent-minded people like me. God Bless him and God bless his family!

Most of the folks who remember Tim knew him as a brave firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice on Sept. 11, 2001. Many do not know that prior to becoming a firefighter Tim was an honored NYC police officer who had been shot in the line of duty. That is when I knew him and when I had the honor of calling him my friend. I think of him often, especially at this time of year. God bless and keep his wife and family.
September 08, 2008
Timmy Stackpole was badly burned at a fire in 1998. Through extensive rehabilitation and sheer will he returned to work on March 11th 2001. On Sept. 8th he was promoted to Captain. He was killed Sept. 11th, 6 months to the day after returning to the job that he loved. To know him was an incredible honor. May God bless Timmy Stackpole and the entire Stackpole family.
September 08, 2008

Dear Mrs. Stackpole and family. It has been 5 years and I am sure although your pain may have diminished it did not go away. Please know there are others who keep your brave husband's memory alive. In April 2002, I wrote here saying how honored I was to be wearing Capt. Timothy Stackpole's name of my copper 9/11 memorial bracelet. Five years later, I still wear it every day as a reminder that the pain of loss is with you and so many others every single day.God love you and hold you in his heart.

It is hard to believe that almost five years have passed since that terrible day. I think of you often, and dearly miss your infectious laugh and ever present smile. I never met a more genuinely positive and caring person in my life. You represented all that a man is capable of being.

Dear Mrs. Stockpole:

I met your husband once when he came to pick up his mom from work. I worked with your mother in- law for a few years and if her son was anything like her he had to be a great person. I remember when he was hurt at the last fire and had gotten burnt and his mom was so worried about him and his future. My heart goes out to you and your children and I wish all all the happiness in the world. He and is mom are greatly missed

Dear Mrs.Stackpole,

I know that it's been three years, but I wanted you to know that my mother, Mrs.Angela Benjamin, worked with Captin Stackpole's mother, Joan in District 22 in Brooklyn and we all know what he means still to you and your family. A good name is to be cherished, but know that you would still rather have the man there with you in the flesh.

He lives in spirit and in the faces of your children. My mom says that your mother in law would talk about how much he really loved you, please know that where he is, love abounds and he's waiting for you to join him and the right time.

With love,
Loraine Benjamin Bronston

Dear Timmy’s family, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. On that horrific day, I was on the 99th floor of 2 World Trade Center working for Aon. I’ve lost so many wonderful colleagues and a best friend but was shocked to have found that I had known another. I will never forget that day and all those we’ve lost. Timmy was very courageous for helping us that morning and I am so sorry for your loss. As a kid I enjoyed going on family vacations to a resort called Shapanack in the Catskill Mountains and had the honor to meet the Stackpole family, those were the good days. We’ve had a lot of good times and the memories we will cherish forever.

God Bless You All.

Today is the third anniversary of that terrible day. I saw Timothy just two days earlier at the "Great Irish Fair" and was so impressed that I videotaped some of his speech when he was honored as "Irishman of the Year". I made a copy for his loving wife, Tara.He was very humble when he was so honored. I fear that many people attending the Fair on that beautiful day of Sept.8,2001, are no longer with us. I was privileged to spend even a few hours in the company of New Yorks' Bravest and Finest. God bless them and God bless America!

A TALE OF A STOLEN HERO

They say that God acts in mysterious ways and Timmy Stackpole's story is one of those mysteries. The day after the bombing I came across a book called "So Great a Cloud of Witnesses" by David O. Rankin, an Episcopalian priest. I was stunned by the title of the book as it so perfectly described that monstrous cloud which was, indeed, filled with the souls of a great many witnesses to that evil act.

It is a book about spiritual journeys. Later, as I was reading it, my soul told me to look at the publishing page, something I NEVER do. I was again stunned to notice that the distributer of the book was STACKPOLE BOOKS!

I first heard of TImmy when I saw a news feature about his burn treatment. After months of pain and suffering, he still went back to the FDNY. Not many people could do that. I remembered the name because my last name is similar, STACK.. I then did the ususal poetic twist on his name POLE for the fireman's pole.

When events like this coincidence occur to me I know that somewhere God has His hand in the matter. There are too many similar events happening at the same time to be mere chance. These kind of things happen to me quite often so I know the drill.

I called some relatives back in Brooklyn and asked if they knew him. They did. On September 10, my mother even cut out a picture of him receiving a MAN of the YEAR award from the Emerald Society. My family also goes to the same beach club at Breezy Point, where I also spent many happy summers. Another family member lives in the same neighborhood. My brother also taught Tara in high school, so there are many connections here.

My sister sadly told me that he had died in the collapse. I have not lived in New York since 1972 and had no idea that my family knew him. He must have a powerful spirit to guide me to that book that so aptly told the tale of that horrible event. He stands for all the stolen heroes that died that day. I have done a memorial collage about him and if anyone is interested they can e-mail me at [email protected]

God Bless you Timmy and God Bless all those that died that day. I know that Timmy is standing over his family and watching them. I, too, think about them everyday and say a few prayers for them. We will never forget you, Timmy! Farewell to all the Stolen Heroes!

Look homeward, Angels!

Dear Stackpole family,

Some time ago, I found a quote that really changed my life, by a firefighter named Timothy Stackpole. His words became my mantra, and he became my mentor in my journey of trying to do my part for America and for the victims of 9/11. I began my "ride" a short time ago and I now ride my bicycle one mile for each of the 9/11 victims, after writing their names on my shirt. I keep them in my heart as I ride their mile. My first mile was for my sister, who died last year. My second was for Timothy.

I run a web site of inspirational stories and use daily quotes to motivate and uplift. Timothy's quote about helping people has been used often and inspired many, many people.

Tonight my children and I are beginning a new family project. We made a five foot paper flag and our plan is to do a kind deed in honor of each person who perished September 11th. As we complete our deeds of kindness, we will place a heart or a star on our flag with the name of each person in whose memory the deed was performed. Our first is to donate stuffed animals to children in the hospital and Timothy's name will go on one of them.

He made a difference and his love lives on. God bless you always.

Dear Tara and Kids ...

As I post this on 9/15/02, I hope you will be encouraged that so many of us will not forget ... that a year's passing doesn't diminish the sense of loss and grief and pain for those who perished on 9/11 - and for their family and friends.

I have been praying for your family, by name, every morning since the first news coverage that included the story of Tim's magnificent heroism and devotion to duty and service.

On 9/11/02 our office met to reflect and pray for the families of those who died a year ago -- each person on the staff shared about somone who lost their life and then prayed for that family. I was privileged to pray for you.

May His comfort and peace bring solace ... we lift you up in prayer continually.

To The Stackpole Family,
Please accept my condolences for your great loss. Words seem so inadequate.
I never knew Tim. I have a memory bracelet with his name on it to remember him and the other men like him. It has become a very special item to me.
God Bless You All!
RIP, Timothy Stackpole.

I am a student at Moutn Union College in Alliance, OH. As a September 11 service for Hope and Rememberence, 3005 American flags were placed along the sidewalks surrounding the quad, each with the name of one vicitm. We were all encouraged to take one flag with us. My flag bore the name of Capt. Timothy Stackpole. I did not know him, and I will never know his family, but I want them to know that I am praying for them and for all of the other wives and children of the firefighters. I will never know the courage that these men knew, and I feel so blessed to live in a world where we are protected by people who are willing to selflessly give their lives to save others. To Tina and the Stackpole's children...you are in my thoughts and prayers and I will never forget what Capt. Stackpole did for this country. I saw a decal on the truck of a volunteer fireman once, it read..."I fight what you are afraid of" How true that is. Thank you Capt. Timothy Stackpole and all of the other firefighters who go out everyday to protect us all. You will forever been in my thoughts.

I did not know Timothy but as soon as I heard about the Mercy Bands (like the bracelets for POW/MIA) I ordered one and received it with his name on it. I have read some articles about him and wish I could've met him. To Tara and his children, I will never forget him as long as I have the bracelet. I wear it everyday.

To the entire Stackpole Family,
I knew Timmy since he & I were children up at The Shapanack Resort in the Catskills.
I'll always remember growing up with Tim summer after summer. He was always my hero, and our friendship from the age of 10 was one of the most precious I will ever have. He was a unique person who had a passion and love of life, dedicated and the most positive person I have ever met. He had a heart of gold and will be loved by myself and so many. I am truly blessed to have had him as a friend.
With much love to Tara, the children, Ed&PattyAnn, Mr. Stackpole, and the whole family. Always in my heart,

Dear Mrs. Stackpole & Family,

My Wife and I did know your husband, we met both of you at a precana meeting for Good Shepherd Church. Even though we only met timmy once, his words that day helped us many times during our marriage. When we found out timmy had died on 9-11 it broke our hearts.
Timothy was a really special person and we feel lucky to have known him. We know he loved his family, friends and this country deeply.
Our prayers go out to you and your children. GOD BLESS...
September 05, 2002
I want you to know how much Timothy's story touched my heart. I remember seeing his story on T.V. at one time or another...I don't remember when, but as soon as I recieved my 9.11 bracelet and read the name on it, I remembered his story of his comback after his injuries.
I'm thinking about his family and all that were lost, every day. What a heartbreaking thing to happen to us all.
Bless us all.....

Dear Tara and Family,
It is so hard to believe that September is upon us already. I am so glad that I knew Timmy and the type of person that he was. It brings me comfort that his positive traits will live on in your children. To be honest, he only had positive traits and was a wonderful human being. God bless him and your entire family. My thoughts will always be with you.

To the Stackpole Family

I grew up around the corner from the Stackpole Family. My sister Theresa was friends with Timmy and his sister Kathy. They went to school together.

In watching television as millions of others did during that time. I saw that Timmy died trying to save lives. I cried, I still cry for him and his family. He was truly a wonderful person.
May 26, 2002
I too am wearing a 9.ll bracelet with Captain Stackpole's name on it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family. May God Bless You and help you through this sad, terrible time.
May 20, 2002
My family and I grieve for all those lost on 9/11 - those we knew well, worked with, were high school acquaintances of, and like Cpt. Stackpole, had a connection just by living in the same community. We recently saw (by a listing of names in the church bulletin) that one of the Stackpole children received first holy communion recently. Our thoughts and prayers are with his children, and all those who lost parents in this terrible tragedy.
We only wish we could bear some of the pain for those so young- those who shouldn't have to face such adult circumstances at this early age. But we can't. All we can offer is our prayers and our hope for the future - and we do. We pray that God's grace will strengthen these young people and their families. God bless you all.

To the Stackpole family,

I just wanted to let you know that I have been wearing a 9.11 bracelet with Captain Stackpole's name on it for the past couple of months. When I first received the bracelet as a gift and saw the name on it, I thought it might be too sad to wear it, having heard your husband and father's story. But from the moment I put the bracelet on I have been incredibly moved by it. I never take it off. It serves as a frequent reminder to me to say a prayer for all those we have lost and to thank God for all I have. At times, the bracelet fills me with inexplicable hope and at times it helps to guide me through my grief. Though I never knew Captain Stackpole I now feel as if we are long time friends. I talk to him on good days and on days that I call "bad World Trade Center days" I cry to him. I feel a very strong connection to him. I know he is watching over all of you and I ask him to watch over the rest of us as well, to help me through these difficult times, and he does. I am sorry that I never knew him. I have heard from those who did that he was a wonderful man. I hope and pray that you all know no more sorrow in your lives and I thank you for sharing Timmy with me. God bless you all.

Capt. Timothy Stackpole is my Brother. I just want to thank everyone for all your love, support and prayer's. Timmy returned back to work on March 11, 2001 (full duty). On Sept 6th he became Captain. Timmy was and always will be my hero way before 9-11-01. He was one of a kind who loved life to the fullest and loved his family and cherished every moment we all spent together.
April 17, 2002
Not many people realize that Capt. Stackpole went back to full duty on September 9th, 2001....He had been severely burned in a serious fire, recovered over many months with the support of his wife & children, and went back to work!! How many other professions have dedication like that?? ONLY FIREFIGHTERS!!!! No, I didn't know Timothy Stackpole, but read about him in the Daily News, and most recently WNYF. You don't get anymore 'HERO' then Capt. Stackpole. I'm sure you are missed dearly.

Dear Tara and the Stackpole Family:

I grew up a few doors down from Timmy in Marine Park. My family and I are still in a state of shock and sorrow over his death at the WTC. We pray for you all, he was --and will always remain in our hearts and memories. When we speak of Tim we all smile, remembering that he truly one of the bravest and greatest guys we knew.

To the Stackpole family,
I touch the narrow copper band and it's warm - because it is circling my wrist; my blood, my body heat give it life. Your husband/father's memory will be kept alive. I am so honored to be wearing his memorial bracelet. God's love and peace be with you.

I have received my 911 Bracelet with Captain Stackpole's name on it. I also have just finished reading Dennis Smith's "Report From Ground Zero" and Dennis's account of Capt. Stackpole and his heroic return to the fire service. My deepest condolances on your loss of this very special person.
I will keep him and the other firefighters, police officers and emergency responders who gave their lives so others may live, in my heart forever. We are deeply sorry for our nation's great loss of a hero. We thank Timothy for all he did and gave to others every time he was called out. Being a firefighter we know he must have had a very warm and caring heart. May you find comfort in the warm and wonderful memories of times shared with Timothy. May you always feel the warmth of his love surround you and radiate into your hearts. Our hearts cry with you in the loss of an American hero.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

As is Bob McMahon, who left a beautiful poem on this site, I am a high school classmate of Timmy. I had a chance to spend some time with him at a reunion in Nov, 2000. He was telling us about his family and what he had been doing while he was on disability. He was very excited about finishing up his degree at St Francis. I just wanted to let Tara know that the class of '77 is proud of Timmy and proud to have known him.

To the Stackpole family:

Tim was a friend of mine at St. Francis Prep and I will always remember what a nice person he was. He was a friend to everyone and the kind of person you were proud to know. In my mind he will always be 18 and smiling - always smiling.

All of you have been in my thoughts and prayers since September 11th. May you find strength in each other - what a beautiful family you are.

God bless you always.

To my High School classmate....and Irish Poem of Love and Loss....

'Tis the last rose of Summer,
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh!

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one,
To pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow,
When friendships decay,
And from Love's shining circle
The gems drop away!
When true hearts lie withered,
And fond ones are flown,
Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

To The Stackpole Family,
I never met you but I also wanted to express my deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved Timothy.
I look at the sky at night and when the sky is the darkest, the stars shine the brightest. That is how your loved one should be remembered. When the day was the darkest, he shone like a bright star by making the ultimate sacrifice.
He was a hero in life and death and now he is an Angel with his own bright star in that dark sky.
God Bless you all and Rest In Peace, Timothy. I am so sorry that your hearts have been broken.

OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO THE STACKPOLE FAMILY. YOUR HUSBAND AND FATHER ARE OUR TRUE HEROS. GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY.
October 29, 2001
To the Stackpole family,
Some people might say that it takes a tragedy like the one on Sept. 11 for people to find out who our real heroes are. Well, growing up in Marine Park Brooklyn and spending countless summers in Breezy Point, I always knew what a great person Timmy was. People adored him. He was a hero way before Sept. 11th. Just his presence alone made me proud to say I knew him. I will pray for your family ALWAYS, and model my lifestyle after his. Even in death, he will continue to make people better themselves.
October 29, 2001
I attended the same grammar school as Timothy. The Smiths, like the Stackpoles had a child in every other grade. I was in his sister, "K's" class. We prayed for him a couple of years ago after his accident as we pray for him now. Also in our prayers are his wife and children. God Bless you all. You are a credit to him. He is probably as proud of you all as you are of him. He is a geniune hero in the true sense of the word and the NYFD should feel honored to have had him among their ranks.

Dear Mrs. Stackpole,

I can't begin to express my sadness for you and your family. I have read and heard many wonderful things about your husband during the past weeks and can only imagen what a terrible loss you are suffering.

October 08, 2001
What an incredible man your husband and your children's father was! I wish that it hadn't taken such a horrific tragedy for me to hear the story of this courageous and valiant American. Before this, who knew that men like him existed? I am so honored to live in a country where there are men who for all practical appearances seem to be just common men, but who live each day with such uncommon grace and dignity. Mr. Stackpole is a hero in every sense of the word and if I have children some day, I will tell them about your husband when I want to give them a role model to aspire to. You are in my family's hearts and in our prayers, right now and in the days and weeks to come. May God bless you and comfort you.

I saw the tv yesterday and saw the piece and your husband was a brave man. I'm so very sorry this happened to your family. May you find peace and let God comfort you.

Dear Mrs. Stackpole and children,

My sincere condolences to all of you. I wish you strength in the days ahead.

May you take comfort in knowing that Timothy Stackpole will live on in the hearts and memories of Americans as a courageous and brave man...an example to all of us.
