My dad was Harry Gilmer and coached with the Falcon during Norm Van Brocklin time. Tommy was one of my dad and mom's special people. He always made his way over to our table when the team and their families got together after games My dad passed away in 2016 and I know he will be there at the gates in Heaven to welcome Tommy .
September 09, 2018
I was only 10 when I met you and the HS football players at Jefferson HS in San Antonio. My dad was a coach and administrator then and he would get me access to the sideline during the games. What an honor it was to see you in action throughout your football career. But that was not the what made you a great man. My dad had the highest regard for you and he always used your actions as an example for me to follow.

My dad passed away this year, I am really missing him today and not being able to share in our memories of you. My hope is you are together again praising God.

You don't know me, but I worked at the Tommy Nobis Center in the 80's. They are the ones who got me a job first at Windy Hill Hospital (I later transferred to Kennestone Hospital) as a housekeeper. I held that job for 25+ years. I had my picture made with Tommy when he came by the Center for a Christmas party. I praise God for Tommy & the Tommy Nobis Center! I have Cerebral Palsy and I enjoyed working at the Center very much. I am sorry for your loss.

Tommy was the kind of player that one doesn't see often because his skill level was so extraordinary ! He will certainly be missed and remembered by many fans. A word of comfort for his grieving family and relatives : " Your dead will live. My corpses will rise up. Awake and shout joyfully you residents in the dust !... And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life. " Isaiah 36:19. Submitted with love.

To the Nobis family. It is odd I saw him on old You Tube football films and I reminded myself how he wasn't glorified like Butkus but maybe as good if not better. Never knew he had departed. He is at peace now. I am deeply sorry for your loss. Take pride he was such a noble man.

We played against Nobis in junior high school. Nobis was a QB for Emerson and I was a guard for Mann. We beat Emerson for "Class 'A' City Champs" in 1958. Then we were teammates at Jefferson H.S. We've been friends everyday since then. He was a great man and friend. D. S. Sims

December 15, 2017
Tommy Nobis was not only a great player, he was a great man.
December 15, 2017
We wanted to send a note to the Nobis family. I met Tommy back in 1986 as a young underwriter with Wausau Insurance Companies. I visited the Falcons facility in the Suwanee area to review the facilities. I met a very fine gentlemen that was a great player for the Falcons and most of all a great messenger for the NFL.

Lynn and I will be thinking about all of you. We will all miss Tommy and his great level of professionalism that he displayed all of the times so eloquently even when the Falcons had some very tough seasons. He was always such a fan favorite and had time to spend with so many of us.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Tommy's family. Please know that he will be dearly missed. Tommy thanks for all of the memories my friend. God bless all you.

Best regards,

It was my honor to be friends with Tommy for over 50 years. Great person and the probably the best football player in Texas Longhorn history. Tommy was #60 to everyone at Texas, but when people would say Tommy was#60, he would say "The real #60 is Johnny Treadwell" (the All Ameican Longhorn linebacker preceding Tommy). Tommy was humble throughout his life but, a dominating force on the football field. The DKR Longhorns have lost a great one. Thoughts and prayers to Lynn and the Nobis family. RIP #60.
December 15, 2017
Sincere condolences to the Nobis family for your loss. May God comfort each of you during your time of mourning.

Lynn and family, I am sorry for your loss. I have served on the Board at Nobis Works for almost 5 years and will never forget Tommys interest in my son, Chris. Tommy was a giant on the field, but demonstrated an even bigger heart to those who needed help. A gentle giant that was all in to helping others at Nobis Works and the community. While it has been very hard in recent times, you will begin to celebrate in time the wonderful Tommy memories your family has enjoyed. The legacy that Tommy has left lives and will continue to live on. May God Bless and Comfort you during this time.

First met Tommy working alongside him at the San Antonio Coca-Cola Bottling Company where we worked summers during high school. We called him carrot top. Later we saw each other on the UT campus. Can't forget his infectious smile. Always humble about his Saturday performance. Most of all Tommy was a gentleman. He was kind, compassionate, and respected everyone. Lost touch with him when we left UT in 66. I am fortunate to have known him. My sincere condolences to those that loved him. He will forever be in my prayers.
God Bless,

I knew Tommy Nobis when he played for my father. He was like a big friendly bear of a man who was probably the most sensible person in a very raucous group of national champions. I have fond memories. He was a sweetheart, but tough as nails. With any luck, I will see you in heaven.
December 14, 2017

December 14, 2017
My son-in-law and I were at my grandson's JV football game in West Texas this season. A kid made a great tackle on the running back about chest-high and drove him backwards. "Ever heard of Tommy Nobis" , I asked ? He was too young to know but I told him how my dad knew his dad back in San Antonio, Texas. How he was the top draft pick by the Falcons, linebacker for the Longhorns in their prime, etc, etc. The number "60" to me was as revered as Mantle's number "7".
Rest in Peace #60.
December 14, 2017

December 14, 2017
One of the reason Jim Brown said he gave for leaving football was, at the old College All-Star game, his Browns were playing and Nobis and Dick Butkus each grabbed one of Brown's legs and Butkus, said, "Make a wish." Brown said these guiys didn't fear him, so he wasn't going to stay around. Love ya, Tommy.
December 14, 2017
RIP Mr. Falcon. Growing up watching you play is one of the highlights of my life. Prayers for strength and comfort go out to him family and dear friends.
December 14, 2017

December 13, 2017
I grew up playing sports at the Peachtree Hills rec center. I will never forget the day I came in and there was the newly drafted Falcons linebacker Tommy Nobis.

All of us kids were in awe just meeting him. If I remember correctly he was friends with the rec center director at that time.

To us he was HUGE and he would hold the basketball high over his head while we all climbed all over him trying to reach it.

RIP Mr.Falcon, #60, Tommy Nobis and condolences to his family.
December 13, 2017
I BELIEVE AS SO MANY HAVE SAID . HE WAS THE BEST LINEBACKER THE FALCONS EVER HAD. I WAS A SEASON TICKET HOLDER FOR MANY YEARS. HE WAS MR. FALCON !! MAY GOD BLESS HIS WIFE AND FAMILY. GOD BLESSED TOMMY EARLY ON ( TODAY )
December 13, 2017
I can hear the announcer saying, "Nobis on the tackle" with almost every play during the early games of the Falcons. My husband and I were there to see him at the first Falcon game and for many, many years. He was such a favorite, highly admired for his work on and off the fiend. We are better for having known him. God bless his family. He will surely be missed.
December 13, 2017
I am so sorry to hear of Tommy's passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with Lynn and family at this sad time.
December 13, 2017
As a boy growing up in Columbus I always heard stories about what a great linebacker Tommy Nobis was and how he had a "nose for the ball".

When I moved to California and played ILB, I was proud of the fact that I had a "nose for the ball." I wanted to be like Tommy Nobis, even though I never saw him play, simply because of his legend.

RIP linebacker..........
December 13, 2017
Tommy Nobis was an all time great at linebacker both in college and the NFL ! R.I.P.
December 13, 2017
Deepest sympathy for the entire family. Mr. Nobis earned my utmost respect with Nobis Industries. He did great work with thousands of mentally handicapped Georgians. He was a huge, intimidating man on the gridiron. But he had a caring heart of gold. And I feel better by knowing him. He will be sorely missed.
December 13, 2017
Tommy Nobis played in the NFL in the days when a players salary wasnt what it is today. Even at his level of talent and respect, an off season job was often necessary for a complete living. Mr. Nobis off season job for a time was at Reeder and McGaughey Sporting Goods in Buckhead. Bought a few pairs of cleats from him as a youth. He sat in the same pew as my family at St. Annes Episcopal Church. What a fine, normal, unaffected gentleman. It was also an era of relative unsophisticated knee repair. Rest In Peace, Mr. Nobis. Glad your knees dont hurt anymore,
December 13, 2017
Remembering Tommy as one of the finest gentleman that our family ever met among
hundreds of athletes our home received.
Bless you Tommy and your Family.
December 13, 2017
It is wonderful to read the numerous accounts of Tommy's noble character, on and off the field. He was certainly one of the greatest football players at any position, any level, and any era. The epitome of a Hall Of Fame caliber player and man.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Nobis, and thank you for being a model for decency and excellence.

December 13, 2017
I'm so saddened to hear of Tommy's passing. He was a great inspiration to all he came in touch with. I've known Tommy since I was 13 and enjoyed every moment I was around him. My step father (Whitey) loved Tommy from day one in 1966. I'm sure they'll have some stories to share in heaven. Thoughts and prayers to Lynn and the entire Nobis family. You will be missed. RIP #60.
December 13, 2017
Mr. Nobis,

I was very young towards the end of your career, but I knew who you were as a stand out player. As a young boy I became somewhat of a football historian and memorized all the information on the back of the player's cards, yours included. Now, having played football myself, I too, suffer from the same brain trauma issues. I just hope they can find a cure before the next generation ends up like us. RIP Sir.
December 13, 2017
Watched Tommy Nobis from day one... A man of character. Great player as well. Thanks for the memories.
December 13, 2017
60. What great memories. Great football player. Better man. Shook my hand in 1976 at a sports banquet. This young coach was awed. God bless the Tommy Nobis family.
December 13, 2017
I know he was a great football player, but to me, he was just a nice guy who always had a smile when he brought his dog in to our vet practice. He was definitely one of the good guys. My deepest sympathies to Mrs Nobis and the family during this time of loss.
December 13, 2017

Saw him in the late 80s when he was working in management walking up the aisle from the field. Looked like he could still get it done. Chiseled in stone still. He had a big smile for all of us who looked up and said Hey Tommy! Great Player and Great person.
December 13, 2017
Lynn,

My prayers are with you and your family as you grieve the loss of Tommy. I'm sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting him, he sounds like he had a huge heart, and was , to put it simply, a fine man.

Mrs. Nobis and Family, our hearts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of need. My husband and I met both you and Mr. Nobis at one of the luncheons for the Galaxy of Stars. We have a picture with him and he signed footballs for our two grandboys Jack and Jacob. He was a great man not only at football but by starting Nobis works. Many people have jobs due to this program when no one else would hire them, including my husband Chris Wasserman, Sr., he now works for WellStar Health System. Nobis Works gave us hope when no one else would. We are so grateful Tommy Nobis for everything you have accomplished in this world for other people. You have a special place in our hearts and in heaven!

Mr. Nobis set tbe standard by which all Atlanta Falcons have, and will continue to be measured; both on, and off the field. He will be sorely missed.

As a parent of one of the Tommy Nobis Center "kids", I have wonderful memories of this giant of a man being so kind, loving and tender to the participants, and particularly the Valentines Day Dance he hosted. It was one of the highlights of my daughters year.

Thank you Tommy . Without doubt you are the greatest Falcon ever and none will ever surpass you. The NFL HOF is a joke until you are named. Only your work for the mentally and physically challenged at the Nobis Center could match what you accomplished for Texas and Atlanta on the field of play. You are missed.

Condolence to the Nobis family. Saw him play in the 60's. Met him with the Falcons in the 90's. As great a player as he was, he was an even greater person. A man of tremendous character.

When I started playing football in high school i got the number 60 because of Tommy Nobis. I'd have worn it though my high school career but my coach made me change to 50 because he moved to center and he was one of those coaches who said centers were 50's, guards 60's, tackles 70's. I argued I also played line backer playing both sides of the ball, but he made me stay 50. Oh well, this was not supposed to be about me :-). Nobis was awesome through his football career and after. What a great man.

So sorry to learn of Mr. Nobis' passing. He was my football hero growing up. I first met him while covering a Falcons game in the late 80's. Next time I was in the press box covering Ga Tech. Tommy was there scouting another great Falcons linebacker, Keith Brooking. He was kind, outgoing and deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame! My condolences to the Nobis Family.

I had the honor and the pleasure to meet Tommy many times. The first time was when he offered me a free agent position with the Falcons. Later, he was a regular for many years at the NFL Alumni charity golf tournament until he could not play anymore. I also enjoyed visiting with him at Longorhn Lettermen reunions. He was one of the nicest, kindest, most honest people I have ever met. He will me missed by many.

I remember going to the Falcons game with my Dad in 1966. There were folks who had great difficulty distinguishing the Falcons from the Georgia Bulldogs back in those days. However, Tommy was the star that helped bring Atlanta into the "Prime Time" during the '60s.

Dear Family of Mr. Nobis: I am sorry for your loss. I lost my father 10 years ago at 73, so I do know how this feels. I will be praying for the family and know that he is in a better place, and is not in any pain or discomfort.

RIP, Mr. Falcon
