Jared continues to live on in our hearts. I went to a cousin's Memorial Service this past month and the priest said something I will always remember...we don't need to use the past tense of the word "love" when talking about those in our lives that have died and moved on to their eternal life. They continue to live on so it is right that we continue to say we "love" them. Jared, we LOVE you still! We know with certainty that you live on, even if it is in a different place, a different realm. You are still in our hearts and in our thoughts. I personally think about you every time I see the Simpson show listed as a TV show choice. Every time I see a Superman logo. Every time I have leftovers in the fridge I need to do something with. When I fix mashed potatoes. So many memories. Please continue to watch over us until that day we see you again! We LOVE you still! I am honored to have been a part of your family. Honored to have been your MIL. Darla

Currently I am in the Tulsa Police Academy and we have honored all the Tulsa police officers who have died in the line of duty. Cpl Shoemaker is not listed on our wall because he died overseas in service of his country but that does not mean he is not remembered here in Tulsa. There is a memorial walk for him each year and the money raised is given to participants in the special olympics here in Oklahoma. Today I was asked to prepare a description of what happened to Jared Shoemaker. I am a veteran of the Marines and am honored to read his story and tell it to the rest of my academy mates. Its men like Jared that makes me proud to be a Marine and now a Tulsa Police officer.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.
