Jaron D. Holliday Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2007.
At Christmas time, Jaron D. Holliday spent plenty of time with his seven siblings. "He spent a lot of time taking them places, doing things with them, showering them with gifts," said his mother, Kelly Holliday. "We didn't want to waste time going to an amusement park or sitting in a movie theater because you can't look at each other and talk to each other in those places. We decided to make memories by just being together." Holliday, 21, of Tulsa, Okla., was killed Aug. 4 in Hawr Rajab when his vehicle struck an explosive. He was assigned to Fort Richardson. "He loved people. He never met a stranger," said Kelly Holliday. "People were a very intricate part of his life. He loved life." Holliday had always wanted to be in the armed forces, and at age 11 he began researching which branch he wanted to go into, said his mother. In 2005, at age 19, he joined the Army. "That was always his desire - to go into the military and serve," she said. "When 9/11 happened, he was 15, and he said, 'If I were old enough to serve, I would.'" He also is survived by his father, John.

I served with your son...he was an amazing young man. Our unit/office were next to each other. I saw do much of me in him and we became friends. He was my lil bro... watched a movie last night and there was a 21 gun salute at a funeral...I haven´t stopped crying since. If you´re family and reading this, I don´t have to tell you how special he was. That kids smile and laugh could brighten cold dark Alaskan winters...It´s been dang near 17 years...I pray for you guys often. I have lost siblings, I know your pain. We talked about family dynamics often. We were opposites but the same. He was the oldest in a big family centered around God, I was the youngest of 11. I know you miss him and still may struggle because I only knew him for 16 months and he was my family. Your son, your brother, your uncle, your friend, lived on purpose and made waves in the lives of so many. Often we forget the fallen after funerals leaving you to grieve alone. I just wanted you to know you were never alone in mourning. To be honest, I still struggle...I wish he could stroll up to you guys with way he used to walk, flash that smile and remind you why you loved him so much!! Holliday, my brother, my friend, as long as my seeds have breath, you will never be forgotten. Rest in power my friend

I never knew your wonderful son, but just found out his story. He and your family are so heavy on my mind, and I already showed my 15 yr old his pic and told him his story. It is so sad to hear about the loss of such a beautiful, good, devout and noble young man, but I'm so Touched by what he did and the man he was. I can't imagine the pain of losing a son, and such a blessing, and just so thankful he is with the Lord. I pray I meet him up there. Sincerely, Melody Ambler

To the family of Jaron, it's hard to believe that Jaron's passing 6 years ago. My son served with Jaron, Greg Van Dyke. Jaron's sacrifice will never be forgotten by me or Greg or our nation. Jaron keep a watchful eye over your buddies because they miss you.

I just read the article from 2011, and watched the video of Jaron's last letter. Thank you for sharing a bit of him with us. I'm going to share his story with my own son, who is turning 13. I guess I want him to have a glimpse of genuine nobility - how attractive it is to be humble, good, honorable - all those things that are so evident in Jaron. God bless.

My name is Billie Walker and I am with the Blue Star Mothers of America. My chapter is in Tahlequah and works closely with the Veteran imates of James Crabtree Correctional Center. These inmates have a program in which they crochet "Gold Star" afghans for our fallen warriors. It takes them a long time to get one croched and when they do, they put a name on it and send it to my chapter for delivery. I am trying to locate the family of PFC Jaron Holliday. Please contact me at 918-207-1655 or 918-316-4535. My chapter and I will make the trip to where ever you would like to meet so we can present this unique gift to you. You can GOOGLE the "JCCC VETERANS CLUB" and it will tell you about their work. Thank You, Billie Walker, President of Cherokee Capital O21, Blue Star Mothers of America.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

In Memory of Jaron Duvall ~ (Debra Estep)

August 4, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jaron, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Whenever I feel sad and blue,
I remember I have a nephew like you.
Someone so strong and brave,
a hero to save the day.
There is nothing I would not do,
for a nephew who serves for the red, white, & blue.
When I heard you were leaving for Irag,
I was already waiting for the day you would come back,
Knowing that God has your back
How amazing you were to sign on the dotted line,
You vowed to protect all mankind.
You have taught me to hold my head up high,
and know that anything is possible,
all I need to do is reach for the sky,
I can hear you in your practice left foot, right foot about face, all I know is I miss your face.
I am so proud to be your Aunt
I love you with all my heart,
and you were MY HERO from the start...
Keeping your memories alive in my heart Love you always your Aunt Mia

This is my son, who was promoted to CPL, Jaron D. Holliday. He is deeply missed in our hearts today. We love you son, and can't wait to see you again in Heaven. You are my "Hero", and you FINISHED STRONG.

August 16, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Jaron was a true hero. Please know that others share your grief. I had hoped to meet him when they returned home to Alaska. Jaron served with my son, Spc Greg Van Dyke, and was a great friend to him. He will never be forgotten. God bless Jaron and his family. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

I just joined the thousands of people who lined the streets of Tulsa to honor the honorable as your procession passed. Jaron, I didn't know you but I know from others that you were a man of extremely high charactor and patriotism. I honor you and say thank you, in the name of my family and my son AFC Nicholas Kester of Tulsa. You are with God- May His love be with your family.
