He was a good man, a saint; treated people with dignity and respect. You met him once, you loved him like a real friend or brother.

I had the honor and privilege of playing my bagpipes over Mike Spann's grave in Arlington National Cemetery on 22 October 2012. The tune that I played was a beautiful pipe tune written by Marsha Bell of Arlington, VA titled, "Mike Spann".

Mike's family, hearing of my playing over their son's grave, contacted me to find out more about this tune and hoped, one day, to hear it played on the pipes.

I had the distinct privilege of meeting his mother, father and daughter in their home in Winfield, AL on 7 July 2015. With tears in my eyes, I played "Mike Spann" for them. They are a beautiful and precious family. They have so very much to be proud of.
