Katelyn Rebecca Lakin, 28, of Guymon, OK, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017, at her residence. Katelyn was born on February 28, 1989, in Guymon to Jim and Cynthia Lakin.
Katelyn graduated from Guymon High School as Valedictorian with Honors in 2007. She then attended and graduated college at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Katelyn spent the last four years of her life teaching science courses in her hometown public school system. During this time, she was able to educate, enrich and inspire the lives of many young adults and coworkers whose lives will be forever changed.
Throughout her life, Katelyn was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Guymon. She cultivated an extensive and loving church family who not only taught her to love, but also to extend to others those blessings and lessons she learned over the years.
Anyone who had the opportunity to spend any time with Katelyn knows what a blessing she truly was to their lives. Quick-witted, a quick smile and laugh, and with an uncommonly large heart, Katelyn will be sorely missed, but always loved and remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Katelyn was preceded in death by grandparents, Eugene Keith and Betty Lakin. She is survived by grandparents, Jeannine Keith and Roy Lakin; parents, Jim and Cynthia Lakin; brothers, Heath Lakin and wife, Cassie, and Brandon Lakin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
"Brothers and Sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him."
