Grandpa was very interested in genealogy and followed the Russell line all the way back to the first generation of Russells from England to the US starting in 1636. He also wrote in a journal of his memoirs. He has several moments of The Russell Inn, in Georges Mills, NH. He and his Gramma Stella had a very strong connection and writes fondly of her, in his journals. One memoir mentions that he was 5 yrs old and Mother Sigrid was about to deliver his younger brother, Charles. Grandpa got to stay in Gramma Stella's bed. He was honored and loved seeing all the fun trinkets in her room. She had a ceiling light with a pull chain over the bed. It was a big purple, elongated, faceted jewel, as he called it. He asked her why there was so much stuff in her room. She normally didn't like the "Why" questions, but entertained him and said "Everyone needs a place to keep their special things. My place is my room." Fast forward to 2006, Grandpa says "I cannot help but smile, I have six rooms of stuff which are all special things and I thought Gramma was overdoing having ONE whole bedroom.". He has many memoirs like this one and had a very full life. I love him and will miss him dearly. Melanie Russell (Generation No. 13 from the original William Russell born 1605 in England)
