Dear Tini, Harra and Marc, our hearts are heavy for you and your family during this difficult time and we are truly sadden by the news of Liz's passing. Though some time has passed since we last saw her I always remember that she was the type that picked up right where we left off with talk about family, friends and music. Always some Ozzy talk of course. Harra, I remember when I was a 3rd shifter and I used to bike over to your house to hang with you and Liz around the pool, those were good times that I will always remember. Another thing I will never forget is Liz's laugh, I loved it and there was plenty of laughter and fun when ever I saw her, that laugh will always come first in my memories of her.
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time, Keep the Faith, Peace.

Dear Mrs. Koss, Harra, Marc, Ann, and all of the Koss family and friends,

Although I had not seen Liz since our middle school days at Martin Kellogg, I was deeply, deeply saddened to hear of her sudden and too-soon death.

I have many memories. I would like to share some of them in the hope that they may bring some comfort and light to family and friends who share my heartbreak:

I remember a ranch house full of laughter. Liz was quick to laugh, and it was an infectious laugh shared amongst siblings and, more often than not, her father and mother. It was a privilege to witness and be a part of this family bond.

I remember one of Liz's favorite phrases: "The more, the merrier." She would say this when she and I were yet again being dropped off at the then-new West Farms Mall, or when we were meeting for pizza after a half-day at school. This generosity of spirit was a defining characteristic of Liz's personality.

I remember Liz putting an Ozzy album on the turntable in your family room and introducing me to "Crazy Train." We would relentlessly go over the lyrics to make sure that we had them right. It was helpful when the albums came with the lyrics so that Liz didn't have to repeatedly pick up the arm of the turntable and move it back to the grooves that played the phrase or verse in question.

I remember the busy signal ALWAYS beeping when I would call the Koss household. That's what happened in those days when there was at least one tween or teen in residence. I sure was thankful when the family got "three-way calling" so I didn't have to request yet another "emergency breakthrough" from the telephone operator; whatever I had to tell or ask Liz was an emergency of the kind only middle-schoolers have.

I remember hanging out at the corner store, and yes, we did get into a bit of trouble, but Liz always knew when to draw the line. With our Vibram-soled workboots pointed toward the warmth her household promised, we would cut through some backyards to return to safety. Mom would sometimes be returning from work at about the time we arrived, and Liz was ALWAYS happy to see her mother walk through the front door and into the kitchen so that they could catch-up.

I remember walking up and down the hills of Liz's neighborhood to visit the kids she grew up with. Liz had a lot of friends and acquaintances and she was as tireless as our legs were in maintaining those connections.

I remember Liz passing notes in then hallway for me. These notes would sometimes be written to tell someone that I "liked" him. Liz was a good deliverer of notes both outgoing and incoming! We would pore over their written contents, scribbled on white, lined notepaper, folded over into a triangle to protect the notes' contents and often ending with W/B/S [write back soon]. When someone did W/B/S we would parse each sentence for meaning. Liz was good at that.

I remember her bedroom: twin beds at the end of the hallway. We would sit on them in afternoons and discuss important middle school matters. Harra and Marc would drift in and out of the room. I cannot remember Liz EVER saying something unkind to her sister or brother. It must have happened, 'cuz that's what siblings sometimes do, but I can only recall exchanged smiles between the Koss kids.

I remember Liz sitting on the seat of my light blue "Free Spirit" 10-speed bike as I stood up on the pedals and ferried us the short distance from her Old Farms Road home to mine on Maple Hill Avenue - or back the other way.

The name of my Sears bike echoes the hope and joy that I saw in your beloved Lizzy. May you gain comfort in believing that she is in a place where those gifts have been returned to her.

Having known Liz for her fifty years, she was a ray of sunshine each time I saw her, which was frequent. She always asked about the whole family and had a positive comment about each member every time. She genuinely cared about people, for who they were, and truly knew my family. She spoke of her family, with a sparkle in her eyes and huge glowing smile each time we engaged in conversation. I have known her family their whole life, and although I didn't see them often, I knew of their life through Liz. Her spirit was strong, and her love ran deep. Until we see Liz again we will all miss her presence here, yet the day will come when we see her bright beautiful smile and sparkling eyes for all eternity. Take it gently, Denise Beaulieu
