William earned a bachelor's degree from UCONN in Civil Engineering in 1951, and retired from Northeast Utilities in 1992 after 25 years with the company. Besides his parents and wife he was predeceased by a brother- and sister-in-law Dick and Barbara Bartholomew, and a grandson Kenneth Shew Jr. He is survived by a brother, Walter Rotherforth of Bloomfield; children Cindy (Jose) Aponte of New Britain, Robin Rotherforth of Rocky Hill, and Scott Rotherforth of Glastonbury; grandson Thomas Shew (Elizabeth Gilman); great-grandchildren Mia, Carter and Tucker; nephew Rick (Ashly) Bartholomew, niece Bonnie Bartholomew; and countless friends and extended family.
