John Bohuslaw Obituary

John J. Bohuslaw, 88, of Avon, beloved husband of Joanne Reilly Bohuslaw for 32 years, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018. Son of the late John and Agnes (Gill) Bohuslaw, John "Jack" was born and raised in Bayshore, LI, NY. He graduated from Xavier High School, NY City, where he excelled as a member of the debating team. He received his BS Metallurgical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic and his MA Communications from the University of Hartford, defending a thesis, "Effect of Computers on Creativity." Following service in the US Army as a second lieutenant, he began his business career with General Electric in Philadelphia. Over the next 13 years, he progressed to management positions in marketing and international new ventures. Subsequently, Pratt & Whitney Div. of United Technologies in East Hartford recruited Jack as Vice President – Marketing, and he eventually directed an award-winning staff of writers, photographers, artists and video producers. Later he began a new career, fulfilling a life-long dream of becoming a writer. Following a stint at the Farmington Valley Herald, he found a home in the Archdiocese of Hartford, serving as Feature Editor of the Catholic Transcript. He particularly enjoyed covering religious events and doing in depth stories about parishes. In his spare time, Jack authored an unpublished novel, "My Name is Kathryn," taught physics and calculus, and read voraciously. Besides his wife Joanne, he leaves a large extended family and a sister Agnes Bohuslaw of LI, NY. His family will receive friends Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5-8 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. All may gather Friday, July 20, 2018, 9:15 am at Carmon's in Avon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road, Avon. Burial will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Foundation for the Advancement of Catholic Schools, (FACS), 467 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002, or to Saint Xavier School, 30 West 16th Street, NY, NY 10011. Joanne-

I was so sorry to read the Obit. Jack was one of the very best graduate students I have taught in my 42 year career. I believe that I directed his M.A. thesis; I am sure I was on the committee. He was a natural scholar and a really warm and great person. definitely the smartest guy in the room.
I am traveling and can't attend the service, but I saw the obit and wanted to say a tribute. My wife, Tracey Weiss, worked with you at P& W in the 80's. She is not sure you would remember her but she liked and admired you and wanted to say hi!
Warm Regards,
Prof. Roger Desmond
