I JUST LEARNED OF JOE'S DEMISE WHEN I RECENTLY RECEIVED THE UNIVERSITY OF SAINT JOSEPH PERIODICAL.

JOE AND I WHILE AT THE STANLEY WORKS CORPORATE LAB GAVE SCIENCE DEMONSTRATIONS TO LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN, ONCE A WEEK FOR 5 WEEKS EACH YEAR.

JOE MIXED CARBON DISULFIDE AND CARBON TETRACHLORIDE IN A BOTTLE, IMMERSED HIS FINGER INTO THE SOLUTION AND THEN IGNITED HIS FINGER ( THIS SOLUTION BURNS AT 70 F )

ONE OF THE STUDENTS THOUGHT JOE HAD A BIONIC FINGER.

Joe you will be missed. I will always be grateful for the advice you gave to Rhonda and I. It was a pleasure to know you and to work with you.

Dear Cathy,
I was saddened to hear of Joe's passing. It caught me by surprise. Though I didn't get to see Joe much at the City of Bristol, we had a lot of memorable times while working together at The Stanley Laboratory. My favorite recollection is of our design for his vandal-proof mailbox. Joe came to me with the problem and together we designed an RPG-proof mailbox! We laughed when shortly after install he found a few scratches in the paint (visualizing the expression on the unsuspecting vandal's face when it took all the abuse thrown at it). It even withstood a collision with someone's car. (Joe told me the front end of your car took all of the damage.) The mailbox is still standing where Joe installed it. It will probably remain there until a new owner removes it. I will always remember the good times shared.

My sincerest condolences.
