My beloved, Aunt Roberta, meant the world to me. As a child, I remember her much anticipated visits to Maine and the love and special attention she showered upon me, the oldest of six siblings. She filled my world with intriguing stories of world travels, her love of teaching, and words of wisdom. Spending school vacations with her were special: eating Chinese food (for the first time!) in Times Square (the big city!), touring The Queen Mary, enthralled by the Ringling Brothers Circus, to mention a few.

From a very early age, I dreamed of becoming a teacher. What a role model I had!! Her love of teaching was a tremendous inspiration. A dedicated English teacher with high expectations of her students, she truly loved her career. Firm, but fair and demanding the very best work from students and treating each and everyone with respect exemplified her teaching style. The humorous stories she would tell...her heartwarming smile...her kindness...her willingness to help those less fortunate...

Aunt Roberta will be missed and always in my heart. I cherish the family stories and times we spent together. You remain with me always.

Ms. Parlin is one of the reasons I became an English teacher. I am not surprised that she met the Queen; she had the same regal bearing.

Dear Leslie,
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your beloved mother. Roberta was a devoted mother, a dedicated teacher and a dear friend whom I had the privilege of knowing as a fellow teacher at Newington High.
Please accept my condolences on her loss.
Two of my children had the opportunity to have had her at Martin Kellogg and NHS, and both attribute to her their writing skills and love of literature.

I will miss you, dear Roberta, and may "flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Leslie,
If you get a chance, please see the 'You're probably from Newington, CT if...' page on Facebook. I posted your Mom's obituary and many nice things were said about her. She was an excellent teacher who made an impression on many young minds. My sincere condolences...
