Judith A. Gilbert, 83, of Avery Heights, Hartford, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Connecticut Hospice. Born in Hartford, the daughter of Dwight and Florence (Larson) Thompson, Judith grew up in West Hartford and graduated Hall High School, Class of 1953. She spent one year at Penn State prior to marrying Kenneth N. Gilbert in June of 1954. She worked as a key punch operator with Hamilton Standard for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Over the course of her marriage and after Ken's death in 1998, Judith lived primarily in Windsor Locks and West Hartford, prior to moving to Avery Heights in 2002. She became active in the Avery Heights Community serving in leadership roles with Avery Heights Auxiliary and Independent Living Association and was instrumental in welcoming newcomers to the community. Judith is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Linda Gilbert of Wallingford; and two grandchildren, Wendy Dringoli, her husband Jesse and two children, Jack and Kensley of Prospect; and Christy Gilbert, her significant other, Dan Maginnis, and two children Brayden and Kacey of Wallingford. She also leaves her cousin Roberta Sessions. Funeral services will be Friday, November 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Friday morning, one hour prior to the service from 10 - 11 a.m. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Beacon Hospice, Visiting Angels, and Connecticut Hospice for their loving care.
