May Frances (McKean) Vallez, 103, of West Hartford, CT passed away quietly in the early morning hours of Friday, December 22, 2017. Born on August 12, 1914 in New York, NY to the late John Franklin McKean and Maria (McAvoy) McKean, she attended Hunter College Model School and St. Agatha School for Girls in New York. She was a graduate of Vassar College, Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School and Traphagen School of Design. She worked at Cornell University Medical School and Vogue Pattern Company before marrying Arthur H. Vallez in 1960. She lived in Greenwich, CT and Heritage Village in Southbury, CT before moving to The McAuley in West Hartford, CT in 2001. May was an avid reader with many interests including cooking, sewing, and keeping track of her extensive family. After her retirement she was actively involved in volunteer work for various organizations including serving as a volunteer EMT for the Heritage Village Association, Human Services Department for the Town of West Hartford. She was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She leaves behind her daughters-in-law Joyce Vallez of South Windsor, CT and Marilyn Vallez of Prior Lake, MN. She will be lovingly remembered by her 22 grandchildren, more than 75 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Arthur she was predeceased by her step-sons, Arthur J. "Jerry" Vallez, James V. Vallez, Michael H. Vallez, and Anthony Y. Vallez; and daughters-in-law Robah Vallez and Sonia Vallez. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in her name to: McLean Home & Hospice Care, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070.
