Gone but not forgotten. Truly the King of Polka music. My Mom and Dad loved dancing to his music at the Starlite and Colonial Ballrooms in central Wisconsin. My Dad visited with Li´l Wally many times- Charles Strojny. When my Dad passed, Lil Wally sent a special letter to me. I still have it. May you Rest In Peace and play those polkas in heaven.

I had the good fortune to hear and see a lot of Polka bands in the Green Bay area. I was away for so long that I can't remember who I saw live, like at the Pulaski Polish Sausage Festival where many bands would gather. I had the good fortune of a gathering with his nephew in California many years ago. He played the accordion also, and we had a lot of fun. Its one of my premium memories. It was God's gift to know the Polska influence from my mother. My condolences to the family.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family of Lil' Wally. I knew Lil' Wally from Chicago. In fact, he played on one side of the street and I played concertina on the other side. I've always listened to his music and continue to play his hits at home and in the car. My family truly loves the Lil' Wally sound and he'll never be gone as long as we still have his music. God Bless his family and may Almighty God grant you the strength and peace of eternal hope.

My mother played Lil Wally's music for me when I was still in the cradle. My mother has told me that hearing his music would stop me from crying back then, and it still makes me happy today. When I was a bit older, my grandmother used to have me sing along to his music and she would tell me what they meant. I was never able to meet the man and tell him how much his music means to me, but I hope that by doing this, his family will know what a blessing his music was and still is in my life.

My parents, (George & Fran Lonning) belonged to the Polka Lovers of America and they loved Lil Wally's music,Dancing or listening. My Dad died, Jan of 2005 and Mom's lost without my Dad, but playing Lil Wally's songs and all the bands that played at the Majestic Ballroom in Cottage Grove, Mn and around Minnesota......brings a smile to my Moms face. Thanks Lil Wally.......Your still making people happy with your music!

I first heard Wally back in the late 50's playing "My Shoes Keep Walkn Back To You" I was hooked on his music.Through the many years I have played drums, I have had the opportunity to work with Wally on 4 occasions over the past 35yrs and was always amazed at the amount of lyrics that "Lived" in that man's head. He was truly amazing. A great performer...he kept the crowd going from the first tune to the last. I was very proud to have been chosen to play with George Borsuk's Buffalo Connection backing up Wally for his last performance in Feb of 2006. The man was a cacaphony of the polka experience..he continued to pull out song after song. He still had his ability to read his audience and play Their Song. A Musician and Performer the likes of Wally comes by once in a lifetime...He was loved as was his music. He will be missed. I will miss him.

I have loved lil wally's music since I was a kid ( and now I'm 60 ).In fact for several years when I was a teenager all I wanted to do was to listen to his music, try to play it or to attend his dances. He was the greatest in the field -- ever -- I wish that his style, fluency or feeling could some day be equalled but can't see it happening . Now, months later, I still can't believe he is gone : there was something ageless, eternal about his music. One of his many albums and songs was entitled "Zyj na wieki!" (Live forever).....Live forever among the angels, Wally: There was a divine spark in you. Like many others I'll love and take comfort in your music until the day I die. Sincerely, Joe Rodgers, Bridgeport, Ct.

To Jeanette and family, please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of Li'l Wally, my idol.My father and mother would take me to Caldwell Woods every sunday to hear him sing and play, although there were other bands playing, he always seemed to have the biggest crowd listening and dancing to his music. He sang and played with such passion, pure heart and soul. Because of him and his music, I started to play drums and sing his songs, he was my greatest inspiration. Wally you will be missed. My late father played the trumpet with you many times on your live radio broadcasts at the Carousel Club at 25th and Sawyer.I remember him taking me to your recording studio on 25th and Kedzie. I was about 15 way back when in 1965. You where kind to me and even gave me a free rock'n Roll 45RPM. that some group recored at your studio on the Drummer Boy label. < I still have that record in my collection> You where the Beatles of Polka music. Everyone of those early 50's and 60's hits where pure Gold recordings. I always thought you should have received a Grammy for all that hard work and great music you made and for changing the entire Polka music field. Your drumming was crisp and driving. Your vocals that you always over dubbed when it came to the harmonies where beyond great. You will be missed. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to your wife Jeanette and your entire family. What a loss to the polka world. I grew up with Wally's songs. If it weren't for Him, I wouldn't have learned how to dance the polka. I remember taking my Mom and Dad to Polonia Grove to see Wally and it was the only time in my life I danced with my Dad....it was 'Blue Skirt Waltz', which was his favorite. Wally played their wedding in 1949.....he was 19 years old. My Mom followed him when she was single and probably knew that when the day came for her to marry, he was the guy who would play her wedding. My first polka experience was at Polonia with my Mom and sister......Mom made up her mind I was going to learn to dance the polka.......and thanks to Mom and Wally, I did. Wally, thank you for some great music......my favorite will always be the 'One Man Band' album. Heaven has one heck of a polka band.

To Jeanette,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Wally was a "Great Guy". One would have had to perform with him to appreciate his many talents. I had the privilege to play trumpet on several gigs with him, subbing for Don Lucki. Also, what a pleasure it was for me to play piano on many "JJ" recordings. I'll never forget the Christmas album recording session with Joe Koldon, Don Ptak, Ed Noga, Mel Nocek, Wally and myself. It was a classic experience. All of us owe a debt of gratitude to Wally for what he has done in the polka field. He will be missed but his accomplishments and influence on polka music will live forever. My condolences to you and your family.
