Nancy Laws O'Shields went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 21, 2017. She was born on October 1, 1924 in North Shields, England to Charles and Margaret Laws. Nancy was the oldest of 6 children. Her teenage years were spent weathering daily bombings by the Germans in World War II. When she was 19 years old, she joined the English Land Army. There, she worked on a a dairy fam replacing the men that had left to serve in the war. It was during this time that she met Robert O'Shields and married in April of 1945. Robert was a member of the US Army Air Force, and was deployed back to the States soon after the end of WWII. Nancy gave birth to a daughter, Carole Anne and in November of 1946 both traveled to the US on a ship in stormy seas, where it took 10 long days to make the trip. Then, they traveled by train from New York to Texarkana, Texas; then by bus from Texarkana to Sherman.
Nancy spent her life being the best mother to two girls, and loving wife to Bob. Nancy loved cooking for her family, sewing all her daughters' clothes, knitting and crocheting. She was quite an accomplished seamstress, and had even made the wedding dresses for both her daughters. In 1964, she became grandmother (Mammaw) to Teresa Spradlin. In 1969, was grandmother to Brett Gentry and Tricia Spradlin. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye. In 1986, she became great-grandmo-ther to Brittany Floyd; in 1990 to Justin Gentry, 1991 to Amber Long, and in 1998 to Samantha Ebanks.
In 2004, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy, in that same year, she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers. Nancy fought both battles with grace and strength. She succumbed to Alzheimers on Thursday, December 21,2017. Carole Spradlin was caregiver and guardian for 4 years before entering Homestead of Denison Memory Care Unit.
