Hilary Cannon Obituary

Hilary Thomas (Haynie) Cannon, died peacefully at home on January 2nd, 2014 after an extended battle with Leiomyosarcoma.
Hilary was born May 2nd, 1967 in Abilene, Texas to Louise Thomas Haynie and Alton (Bill) Haynie. She grew up in Richardson, Texas and made her home in League City, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Aubrey Cannon, children Ian and Alyssa Cannon, sisters Anne Collins of Cornwall Vermont and Cynthia Haynie of Houston, and many friends and extended family.
Hilary graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a degree in English. She worked for the past 8 years at the Hines Corporation. In addition to her professional work, Hilary was a creative writer, publishing essays and articles in numerous publications over the years.
Hilary was an impassioned and lifelong traveler and photographer, most recently visiting Greece,Israel, Jordan and Turkey. Her travels began as a child with her parents taking her and her sisters across Europe and the US, building the confidence, independence and curiosity that allowed her to travel across the country on service projects with her church youth group, and to Vienna with a youth orchestra as a violinist. Her travels took her across the globe from riding camels in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt to paddling mokoros in the Botswana Delta, to riding a train across Romania, co-pilotinga small plane over Victoria Falls, and walking the Great wall of China, to name a few. Three months ago and despite her illness, Hilary was riding a donkey cart through mountain passages to Petra. All of her travels were carefully documented in words and images, with a singular and deeply cultivated eye for beauty in all things.
To the extent that Hilary enthusiastically explored the world, she equally invested her time in family, community and church. She led Christian Young Adults in Action, taking teens on service projects here and abroad, exposing them to the people and conditions that would cultivate the same seeds of compassion and empathy that took root so early and developed so fully in her own heart. She was loved and respected for those lessons, and those relationships continued into adulthood with many still seeking her counsel, guidance and support.
For the past ten years Hilary shared her life and love with her devoted husband Aubrey and her two children, of whom she was extremely proud. Whether it was fly-fishing in Idaho or decorating a parade float in Pagosa Springs for 4th of July, family time was always a priority.
Hilary had an external radiance and beauty that was matched internally. She was warm, funny, familiar, genuine, thoughtful, and she never met a stranger. She was just as comfortable at a black tie event as she was floating down the Frio with her Aggie family. She wholeheartedly and with extraordinary zeal embraced life fully and with dignity and good humor. Even in her final difficult weeks, she reminded us how to live by her example.
She will be deeply missed by all of those who loved her and whose life she touched.
The family would like to thank all of her friends who shared this journey with her and especially longtime friends Kim Ballard, Lisa Henney and Brandi Plunkett for providing them and Hilary with unparalleled support and necessary comfort in the last few difficult weeks, along with the Hospice Care team of League City, and Dr. Daniel Kim and the team at Memorial Hermann.
A celebration of her life will be held on January 11th at 11:00 at Sabal Park in League City, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Heifer International in her honor.

Hilarry was one of one the kindest and most sincere people I have ever met. We shared stories, and learned equally from one another. May God continue to bless her family, and continue to wrap his loving arms around them.

Hilary knew how to throw a party! We all enjoyed spending time with her this fall in Galveston with a bunch of Aggies watching a football game. From the appetizers to the multi desserts everything was delicious and well thought out. She was one of a kind and knew how th create lasting memories. She has a special place in heaven and will be there planning to welcome her loved ones home. God bless you, Hilary and may He bless and look over your family ..

i was privileged to know Hilary through my work as outside counsel to various Hines entities. She was sunshine. There are far too few good people who cross one's path, and see was certainly one of them. My thoughts and condolences are extended to all of her many friends and family.

Hilary was one of the most beautiful persons I have ever had the chance to meet, inside and out. She touched my soul within seconds of speaking with her. I remember the first time I met her, it was outside the Dixie Chicken. I knew we would be friends when she brought me a shot. I know you are in a place of peace and comfort. Gig'em!

This was truly the the most beautiful girl, and one hell of an Aggie!!!! She had such a contagious laugh, and oh what a smile, I remember when my husband and I, met Hilary...it was many years ago in a Irish bar in downtown Houston. She had a beauty that we both never forgot. I know that she fought the battle with such grace and dignity. We will never forget that beautiful smile and your kindness, sweet Hilary!

We were instantly taken with her charm, wit, and kindness. We also feel very honored to be the recipient of a cross she made for us. It hangs over the entrance to our bed room. We know she is with us with her good vibe and karma. We will miss her. Our love and thoughts to the family.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Hilary could light up a room with her warmth and her smile alone, never mind her compassionate and loving personality. She is one of the strongest and bravest people I know. She always remained positive despite a grueling struggle. She will be sorely missed.
