Michael Stephen Ibarguen
1952-2017
Michael Stephen Ibarguen went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2017 at the age of 65. Mike passed away on the golf course, practicing the game he loved. He was raised in Pasadena, Texas and graduated in 1970 from Sam Rayburn HS. After graduation, he was drafted to play minor league baseball. For six years, he played for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. Following his stent in baseball, he attended U of H where he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Chemical Engineering. For almost four decades, Mike had a career as an Engineer in the Petrochemical/Engineering Constructions Industry that took him and his wife, Leah, to different parts of the country. Mike's faith and family were the most important parts of his life. He and Leah were members of St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Katy, Texas. He is survived by Leah, his wife of 45 years, son Blake and his wife Jennifer, granddaughters Sophia and Samantha Ibarguen, and a host of other family members and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 10:30am at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, Texas.

Mike was a tremendous PM here at Jacobs, he was a great thinker and decision maker and I feel that I'm a more complete Engineer and person having been associated with him. God's grace to his family in their time of loss.

Dear Leah, we are so sorry to hear about Mike. When we moved in across the street from the UK you welcomed us with open arms and a big smile. That is how I will always remember Mike - big smile and kindness. I cannot image what you are going through, but cherish the memories and soldier on. Our love to you.

Mike was the type of man I hope our young boys will grow to become. He was a family man first, a servant of the Lord, and an incredibly hard worker. He was humble, smart, gifted and kind. No airs about him. Oh, and he was a jokester. He loved a good laugh. He laughed with his eyes and a good shake!
Mike soaked up life's simple pleasures. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. He was an unsung hero of sorts. I remember he would show up on Sundays to mow our lawn when my father was traveling for work. He would "shoot hoops" for fun with my brother and show up to support his nieces events and performances at any chance.
I am grateful to have had Mike in my childhood and loved that my husband and children grew to know him. I know my parents miss their good friend already. Good bless, Mike.
Leah and Blake, thank you for sharing him with us.

I consider Mike a close friend of mine. He was a mentor and positive role model for me when I first arrived at Jacobs. Along with his outstanding work ethic, he was also an avid wood worker, which is another shared interest. He was just as detailed in his hobbies as he was at work. Lu and I will miss him dearly. We are sorry for you loss Leah, but wanted you to know what he meant to me. Good Bless.

We were heartbroken when we received the news. Just know Leah that you and your family will be in our hearts and prayers.
From the first time we met Mike his smile and attitude on life was such a joy to be around. Our days of laughing together as we both begun our career paths and we both raised our families bring back such fond memories. Our paths only crossed early in life as our life's took us different directions but our old friend will always be just that "a friend for life".

Leah, My heart breaks for you and your sweet family. Although I only spent a few hours meeting Mike, I heard nothing but wonderful stories about him from Jennifer and Bonnie. They told me what a fine man he was and the love he had for his family, and especially his little girls. May his memory be a blessing. Janis Delman

My thoughts are with Mike during his journey and with the many who love him. Our mothers were great correspondents, so that I had great interest and joy to hear of his baseball glory.
May you find peace in your love for each other.

Michael was a charitable and kindhearted soul whose stature in height could make him imposing. However, as soon as you saw his warm and welcoming smile you understood he was a gentle and compassionate man whom you wanted as a friend. As a distant cousin living on the east coast, our family was always proud to hear of Mike's many accomplishments. He was incredibly bright but never showed off his great intellect. Absolutely the smartest baseball player I ever met! He was special for his sincere compassionate for those who were less fortunate. If the Lord was after a true and straight arrow, he found one in Mike Ibarguen. May his soul rest in peace. Ed and Lynne Ibarguen
