Rehme, Almyra V.

Almyra V. Rehme, age 95, a former resident of St. Nazianz, died Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Whitetail Estates in Manitowoc.

Almyra was born February 27, 1917 in St. Nazianz, daughter of the late Joseph W. and Annie (Zarmsdorf) Christel. She graduated from St. Gregory Catholic High School and then from Sheboygan Business College. On November 28, 1934, she married Stephen Rehme at St. Gregory Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1996. As a girl she worked on the family farm. Then along with her husband later purchased the hobby farm. Almyra was a cook at the former Salvatorian Seminary. She then was employed with the Leverenz Shoe Company retiring in 1982. Almyra was a member and Past President of the St. Nazianz Senior Citizens Club, a Charter Member and President of the Wagner -Eberle-Sukowaty Unit 477 American Legion Auxiliary; member of the Manitowoc County Commission on Aging, past Project Council member, a member of the St. Nazianz Lioness, Red Cross driver volunteer, Senior Citizen Statesman, a member of St. Gregory Christian Mothers and Peer Counselor for the elderly.

Suvivors include one son and daughter-in-law: James and Cathy Rehme, St. Nazianz; one daughter and son-in-law: Beverly and David Jenkins, Valders; five granddaughters: Steph (Brian) Wittmus, Shauna (Brad) Olivera, Breauna Jenkins, Patricia Rehme, and Heather Rehme (Vicente Alpizar); seven great grandchildren: Kyle, Tristin, Braedon, Addisyn, Ana, Brysen, and Daysi. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Patrick Nelson, S.D.S. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Almyra's name.

The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the St. Nazianz First Responders and a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Whitetail Estates and to Hospice Advantage for their care and compassion shown toward Almyra and her family.
