Boeckman, Kenneth
Kenneth Boeckman, age 90, of Manitowoc, passed away Wednesday evening, July 5, 2017 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Ken was born on August 29, 1926 in Manitowoc, son of the late John and Anita (Groelle) Boeckman. He attended local area schools in Manitowoc. Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving as a paratrooper in the Pacific and a member of the Occupation Forces in Japan following the war. Ken played Semi-Pro Football with the Manitowoc Braves from 1947-1952, being inducted into the Manitowoc Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. Ken married the former Lucille A. Meyer on September 19, 1953 in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2013. He was employed at Chicago Northwestern Railroad until his retirement. After retirement, Ken and Lucille moved to Woodruff WI where they lived for 24 years. Ken enjoyed woodworking, oil painting, gardening and outdoor activities. He also loved to polka and considered football season the best time of the year.
Ken is survived by his three children: Steven (Kathryn) Boeckman, MI; Cynthia (James) Bowhay, IL; Joel Boeckman, CA; five grandchildren: Sarah (Peter) Garber, IL; Rebekah Boeckman, IL; Joshua Boeckman, FL; Samuel Bowhay, WA; Ruth Bowhay, IL; one brother and sister-in-law: Donald (Diane) Boeckman, Manitowoc; one sister: Joanne Parsley, KS; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law include: Ann Boeckman, Manitowoc; Delores Boeckman, Manitowoc; Kenneth (Mary) Meyer, Manitowoc; Henry (Betty) Meyer, Two Rivers; Elaine Schurr, Manitowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Lucille Boeckman; four brothers: John (Marcella) Boeckman; Robert Boeckman; Fred Boeckman; Richard Boeckman; sisters: Bernice Boeckman; Mildred (Karman) Ludger; Margaret (Walter) Bratz; Carolyn (Bert) Truttschel; Phyllis Boeckman; Ethel (Orville) Liermann; Dorothy (Lester) Halverson; Elda (Norman) Fischer; sister-in-law: Martha (Vernon) Schultz; brother-in-law: Henry Schurr.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 South 8th Street, Manitowoc from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
