I first got to know Jonathan over twenty years ago when he was a new AVP and I was chair of faculty senate. What a treat it was to work with him as AVP. Many know the difficulties I find with administrators' views of higher ed, but I always appreciated Jonathan's intelligence and insight, and even worked as an assistant for him. It was a pleasure to know him. He is missed by us.

Dr. Lawson was such an inspiration. He treated his graduate students as colleagues. He was always kind and wise. I'll miss him. I'm so sorry Pam! I'm headed to Reed's Dairy to get an ice cream in his honor.

Dear Pam,
I'm so sorry to read about your and our loss of Jonathan. He was reliably polite and sensitive, a true gentleman in academe. He was also that when I would run into you two around town. I will always remember him fondly.

Twenty years ago, Jonathan offered me a job as University Librarian at ISU. I enjoyed our friendship over that time and will miss him greatly. My love and condolences to Pam and his family.
