I could not let this opportunity go by without writing something about a special friend Carol was to me and my family. I met Carol 20 years ago when I worked at a doctor's office that she went to. I also knew her precious mother. Our friendship began when she would ask me to help her mom with her eye drops. I was happy to do so and we were friends from then on. My family was invited up to the ranch and it was our great fortune to have done so many times. She let us camp on her property. We had dinners with her and Bev. The tacos were always good and then one night it was deer steak. She loved showing us around the ranch and the rock house. It was always fun and a learning adventure. In 2008 my niece from NY visited and it isn't a trip to Idaho without visiting Carol & Bev. After dinner, we got on our ATV's and my niece got to herd cows! What a hoot! My niece still talks about the cowgirl she met in Ola, Idaho. A few years ago, Carol made me a Christmas stocking out of leather with some animal hair fringe. In it, was a shiney piece of black rock, which she informed me was coal! I am such a city girl!! She always invited us to the ranch to help build or mend fence. I told her I couldn't because I might break a nail! So, I volunteered my husband and I have photos of him helping her mend fence. Carol has been gone 3 weeks, and my heart is still heavy. It just won't be the same without Carol in this world. I am truly the lucky one for having known Carol. Her smile, laughter and great stories will be missed.

I haven't gotten to share a bowl of popcorn with Carol and Bev for a long time, and it's been decades since they loaded me up with pointy cedar posts to haul up a precipitous fence line. I still dream that I'm a field hockey right wing and "Shultz" is telling me to get a move on. She was a faithful friend and correspondent all these years and I wish I'd gotten to eat some more of that popcorn. Too many generous blessings to count from this one-of-a-kind person -- I am missing her presence in the world very sharply today. Warm thoughts and comfort to Bev.

Bev~~~ her spirit roams forever on the mountain that she loved... and in the hearts of those who loved her.
