Charles (Chuck) Walter
May 2, 1943 - May 14, 2017
Charles (Chuck) Walter of Boise, ID passed away in his home with his wife and children close by on May 14, 2017. He was 74 years old.
Chuck is survived by his wife Chris Walter; children Jeff Walter and his wife Christine of Portland, OR, Kevin Walter of Boise, ID and Suzie Walter and her husband Ben Nalezny of Boise, ID; his 5 grandchildren (Ellie, Hannah, Gino, Addie and Stella); his brothers Jim (Donna), Fred (Bonnie) and Owen (Barbara); and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father Charles and his mother Ruth.
Chuck was born on May 2, 1943 in San Luis Obispo, CA to Charles and Ruth and lived his early life in Morro Bay and Paso Robles, CA. He graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1961 and then attended San Jose State University where he met the love of his life and life-long companion Christine (Chris) Leininger on the 5th floor of the library. They married on June 19, 1965 in China Lake, CA and after living in San Jose, CA moved to Boise, ID with their young children in 1975.
Chuck spent his career working at Hewlett Packard holding many management and executive jobs while mentoring countless employees in their careers. He was especially proud of the manufacturing relationship he helped establish with Canon, Inc. that continues to this day.
But most importantly, he lived life cherishing the three most important things to him - family, friends, and experiences. Chuck enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and close travel companions and leaves many great memories and shared experiences across the globe. He was also an avid golfer, having started playing as a teenager. Over his life he had the pleasure to have many outstanding golf buddies with whom he enjoyed playing countless rounds.
Chuck was also very active in the Boise community including the United Way, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts, St Luke's Foundation Board, Sewer Commission, the Boise Philharmonic and Crane Creek Country Club where he served as President and helped spearhead the effort to redesign part of the golf course that will open later this summer.
Finally, Chuck is remembered fondly as "never having met a stranger". Regardless of who he met he loved to engage them in discussion and was always interested in learning about people's lives. He had a profound impact on many individuals and will be dearly missed by all...
A celebration of his life is scheduled on June 29th from 5-7 at Crane Creek Country Club with a toast to his life held around 6PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chuck's life. In lieu of flowers we encourage you to make a donation to the Boise Little Theatre, St Luke's Foundation or the charity of your choice in his name.

I will always remember and be grateful to Chuck for his kindness and mentoring when my husband and I moved to Boise and Bill joined Chuck at H.P. in 1977. Chuck was an intelligent well educated man skilled in business and competent in working with a wide variety of people in his work as well as in the community. Chuck, Chris, and I have the same Alma Mater, good ol' SJSU. My thoughts and prayers go out to Chris, Kevin, and the entire family. The Boise community lost a great man.

I got to know Chuck through golf at Crane Creek, especially our "Dewsweepers" group. He was as nice a guy as anyone could hope to meet....a great conversationalist who always had an interest in the people with whom he interacted. He also had a great career at HP and did so much for the community. His sickeness and passing happened so fast, it's still hard to believe that he is gone. I'll be out of town on the day of the memorial at Crane Creek, but I wanted Chris and her family to know that I'm so sorry for their loss.

I just heard about Chuck passing away. I met Chuck quite a few times when I was Mfg Mgr in Bristol. He was a friendly guy and we had dinner at a number of events. We also had his son spend time with our family near Bristol, England.
Sadly missed.

Chris and Kevin: We just returned from California and are terribly saddened by Chuck's passing. He was a true gentlemen and a friend to anyone who met him. I'll not forget his positive attitude and outlook on life.
One of my favorite memories is when Chuck and I helped Kevin and my son, Tom, move into their dorm room as freshman at UPS. I also recall with admiration the leadership he gave to Crane Creek as President, particularly securing the land for the 2 new holes presently being constructed. I deeply wish he would have played those holes.
He'll be truly missed by us and all who knew him.

We were so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. He loved life so much, and he lost his far too early. We do have so many memories of Chuck - his very clear opinions and the sideways smile that went with them, that he was always so open to meeting new people and always remembered the ones he'd met. Blessings and prayers for Chris and the rest of the family.
