To George and Lesley,

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your dad and father-in-law, and our friend and old neighbor.

I don't know if you remember meeting us a time or two when you had the sandwich shop downtown on 8th Street, and also at Erna's funeral in 2009. We lived one house away from George and Erna when they lived in the subdivision off Cole Road and we became good friends during the years we lived there. Our son, Steve, interviewed your dad for a paper he had to write in high school on someone who immigrated to the US -- I think that might have been about 1982 of 1983. We all enjoyed the talks and final paper and considered it an honor to have George be the subject of his learning experience!

As well, one of our most cherished memories was when George was at St. Al's for his hip surgery, and watching the interaction between him and Erna and the hospital staff about what the hospital would allow -- or not. Of course, Erna won, and George just laughed. We have many treasured memories.

Are you perhaps having a memorial service later when your sisters are able to be here? If so, please let us know -- we wouldn't want to miss it.

Love and prayers,
Karen and Clint Simkins
