Mary. So sorry to hear about Jon's passing. Jon and I didn't get to spend a lot of time together but I will always remember him as having a smile on this face and a kind word. You are in our prayers.

For Jon,
I'll meet you halfway up the road
In a rusted out old truck...
Apples loaded front to back,
Damn, I've had good luck...

Somewhere between the written word and the language of the land
A man with eyes as blue as sky...
Did all he ever planned.

I'll meet you halfway up the road
Where the "Jewel"
makes a moonlit trail...
Sweet memories run-long & deep
And create a windowed veil...

I'll meet you halfway up the road,
Where sage meets a starry sky...
Night winds blow, barn owls hoot...
Spread peace oer all they fly.

Sing me a song about apples now,
While I reach the clouds on high.
I am watching over my sister dear...
The True apple of my eye.

When I got my first computer so many years ago, I was fascinated at the prospect of having the world at my fingertips (and slightly intimidated). I recalled in my youth of having a pen pal and discovered the cyber equivalent. Since I couldn't decide on where, I put my name in a proverbial bucket for the United States. Jon chose to contact me and thus began a correspondence that spanned decades. We even met once while I was visiting family in Tuscon, Throughout that time we shared stories of two contrasting worlds. Through his words I experienced the birth of a baby calf, the ups and downs of crops, the death of parents, loss of pets, creation of Jewel Wetlands, restoration of his beloved Porsche, and the day-to-day happenings from which Jon would weave colorful stories. Each year Jon would send me ever so sweet apples. I became an expert on assorted recipes. My memories are too numerous to list. I am proud to say I knew Jon Gardiner Trail.
