CLEO MAE ROARK BRANDEL
April 29, 1935 - May 16, 2017
Cleo Mae Roark Brandel, 82, departed this life at her home in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho on Friday, May 12, 2017. Her daughter, Kimberlee Tucke, her sister Bonnie Lowry and a friend, Cameron Iveson, were beside her as she left her earthly cares and pains behind.
Cleo was born on the 29th of April 1935 in Meridian, Idaho, the seventh of nine children to Theodore Francis (Buck) Roark and Phoebe Elaine Bruno.
On November 29, 1952 she married George August Rane and they became the parents of six children, three girls and then three boys. Children were always a part of Cleo's life. From childhood on she helped care for sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and others around her. In later years she took care of her parents and an uncle as they prepared to leave this life. She was a caregiver to many.
She and George moved from Garden Valley in 1959 for employment near Portland, Oregon, returning to the valley in 1966 when George's father had a stroke. George was killed on December 6 of that year in a logging accident and Cleo became a widow at age 31.
On December 9, 1969 she married Raymond LeRoy Brandel (Lefty). They had one daughter together and she added Lefty's son and three daughters from a previous marriage to her family.
She stood behind Lefty as he started his own business when problems arose in the logging industry. They worked at logging and sawmilling in Bear Valley and West Mountain until 1976 and then moved to Alaska where Lefty worked at several jobs until they returned to Horseshoe Bend in 1987.
Lefty passed away on June 21, 1993 leaving her a widow again. Cleo loved her home in Horseshoe Bend and remained there until her passing.
She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on August 19,1961 and the church was always an important part of her life. She was shy but she gathered her courage to serve in various callings in the church. She went on several trips to church history sites with her sisters and she liked traveling. Cleo spent many hours alone. She enjoyed her yard, reading and making dolls, quilts and scrapbooks for loved ones. Most of all she liked being with her brother and sisters, children and friends.
She is survived by seven children; Elayne (Cookie) (Don) Ray of Ontario, OR, Sherry (Greg) Tubbs of Blackfoot, ID, Vivan Heilman (Jason Sowinskj), of Palmer, AK, Richard (Roberta) Rane of New Plymouth, ID, Theodore (Thor) (Shelina) Rane of Garden Valley, ID, Thomas (Traci) Rane of Rigby, ID and Kimberlee Tucke of Horseshoe Bend, ID; four stepchildren, Dan (Connie) Brandel of Coeur d' Alene, ID, Sue (Larry) Brumbaugh of Chandler AZ, Renee ( Mike) Williams of Kingston, AZ, and Cindy Powner of Manhattan, MT; 46 grandchildren; 63 great-grand children; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Grace Loretta Tackett, Macel Evella (Mickie) May, Anita Rae (Ray) Moore, and Bonita Kay Lowry; brother, Donald Robert (Tuffy) (Loretta) Roark; and many nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Anthony LeRoy (Tony) Roark, sisters, Joyce Luella Roark Bedal and Dorothy Elaine Roark, her husbands, George August Rane and Raymond LeRoy (Lefty) Brandel, grandson, Dominac Charles Rolland, great-great-granddaughter, Brynlie Carver and son-in-law, Les Powner.
The family expresses their gratitude to Kimberlee Tucke, Cameron Iveson, Bonnie Lowry, the staff of Horizon Home Health and Hospice and all those who visited and helped Cleo feel cared for and loved in her final days.

When I was a teen, Cleo had a house full of her own children, yet I was always welcome by her sweet smile and open arms. I've never forgotten her generosity. My love to all of you she leaves behind. A wonderful family.
