Donald Angell Obituary

Donald Hunt Angell, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 12, 2017. He fought a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and muscular dystrophy until the end.
Don Angell was born on November 29, 1933 in Hollywood, CA to John Edward "Ted" and Miriam Hunt Angell. He was the third child, having one older brother, John, and sister, Florine "Flo", who was born the same day four years prior. The family lived in the Los Angeles area and the San Fernando Valley, CA. After graduating from San Fernando High school in 1952, he attended Los Angeles City College and Valley Jr College where he met his future bride, Beverly Diggins. In 1954, he was drafted into the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He and Beverly were married in September of 1956. He then attended UCLA after having been told he would never make it, being from a "poor" school in San Fernando. He proved them wrong, as he did many times in his life, by receiving a BS in Engineering with honors and induction into the Tau Beta Phi engineering honors society. Following graduation, he worked at several electronics companies, including ITT in Sylmar, CA, where he designed the guidance and telemetry systems for the Talos missile and Apollo space programs. Some of this equipment has been on display in the Smithsonian Aerospace Museum. In 1971, Don and Bev decided to move to Idaho with their five children for a better place to live and raise their family. He went into partnership with the owner of the Wood River Cablevision company and proceeded to re-design and rebuild the existing cable system in Hailey and eventually Bellevue, ID. During this time, he took courses from the University of Idaho and received his Master Degree in Electrical Engineering at the same time as youngest son, David, received his BS in Electrical Engineering. Eventually, the cable system was sold and he started working for Power Engineers in the early 80's when they were just starting out in Hailey. He worked at Power Engineers for many years and enjoyed the work and making great friendships. When his health started to fail, Don and Bev decided to move to Boise where some of the children lived and the weather was more suitable. He continued working as a consultant for Wells Rural Electric Cooperative, in Nevada, until his passing. He loved the people there, his work and he never quit.
Don is survived by Beverly, his wife of 61 years; children: Don and Renee of Boston, Mark and Ann of Nampa, Sandra and Mark Bosetti of Redding, CA, David and Cece of Garden City, Karen and Kevin Mehrhoff of Eagle; eleven grandchildren: Don and Brandon Angell, Mark and Matthew Angell, Shannon Bosetti and Amber Knight, Christopher and Michael Angell, Nicole, Jennifer, and James Mehrhoff; six great grandchildren: Carson and Asher Angell, Barrett and Ava Knight, Quincy and Faith Bosetti; and his brother John and wife Bonnie of Sylmar, CA.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29th at Our Lady of the Rosary, 1500 E. Wright St. in Boise. Private Committal services will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home and Cremation, Meridian.
