I think that I first met Mary through the Asian Art Society at the Indianapolis Museum of Art back in the 1990's. Soon after we also crossed paths at the Association for International Women, where we both joined a Japanese Culture small group, which unfortunately was short lived when the organizers returned to Japan. I then invited Mary to join another club for sharing Japanese culture that I belonged to: Tomodachi. She and I both became longtime members and developed a very special bond over the years. Mary was such a dear friend. We had so many fun adventures over the years, attending art exhibitions, visiting gardens, Asian Art Society dinners and events. She would send beautiful cards and notes, sometimes written all in French (which I don't speak). Mary was so supportive of me and my study of ikebana. She also became dear to my entire family, attending birthday parties, bridal showers, etc. The memories will remain close to my heart, as does she. She was such a unique, lovely, elegant, cultured, loving, intelligent woman. I miss her, her sweet smile, and especially her little giggle when she was mischievous.

Mary was a beloved member of our Tomidachi Club and will be missed. She added much to our gatherings with her intelligence. . Wilma Sukapdjo

Mary was a dear person and befriended me during my tenure at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She was a quiet soul with a big heart and love of art. The dinners and long talks I got to share with Mary are fond memories of mine. I have many little postcard notes with newspaper articles she sent me from her home to mine right here in Indianapolis! I have kept them all. She will be missed by many. My condolences to her family and all who loved her. May you rest in peace, Mary.

To Mary's family I offer my condolences. I am so sorry and had no idea that she had been ill. She was a fine lady whom I knew through the French Group of the Association of International Women (AIW), now called International Women Indiana (IWI). Sometimes we met at the IWI luncheons. I thought her witty and wise, and I will miss seeing her smiling face.
May God comfort you all,
Mary Ann Fadae
