Whatever Marvin Schuman said when I met him over the years always stayed with me. When I was in my 20s, formulating my political ideas, Marvin Schuman asked a few questions and made a few points that helped me formulate my own political views. Later in my life, he spent part of an afternoon telling my young sons about his WWII experience in Normandy and how he met Patton, which was thrilling to hear about. I was so grateful for this story he told my boys. He was a kind and gentle man, and Im so glad I got to know him.

I wish I could be there to commemorate him.

My thoughts are with his family.

From Alan and Chris Casper. We were very saddened by reading of Marvin's passing. He was a sweet and wonderful man. We regret that Alan's recent eye surgery has made it impossible for us to attend either the funeral or the shivah. We will be sending out a contribution in his memory later this week.

I wish I could be there with you to commemorate this lovely man. You are all in my thoughts.

PS I would these photos from a visit to Santa Cruz--Joan and Marvin at their finest.

I had the pleasure of teaching with Marv for eight years at Frankford. He and I taught in the Motivation Program together for a few years, so we would teach the same students 3rd-5th periods every day. He would teach one group for seven periods of mathematics one week while I taught eight periods of English and then we rotated the next week. As a result, many times he and I would have lunch together sixth period, and it was there that I really got to know and respect him as he shared so many wonderful experiences and talked baseball. I also heard from my students what an outstanding teacher he was. Marv was also our Roster Chairperson, and , of course, was exemplary at that too.
I was principal of Washington High the last couple years of his presidency of the PFT, and I often told the teachers at our school how fortunate they were to have such an exceptional leader.
Marv was a true gentleman and one of the most organized and fair minded persons one could ever meet. All my best to his loving family.
Harry Gutelius.
