Karl Anthony EDEN

Passed away peacefully at The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, with his family by his side, on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the age of 82. Karl will be deeply missed by his wife Suzanne, daughters Patricia (Lawson) and Susan (Don) and grandchildren Alexander (Deanna), Suzanne, Robert and Valerie. He will be missed by his siblings Jacqueline (Roy) and Michael (Judi) and many extended relatives, friends and neighbours. He was a principal for the Hamilton-Wentworth School Board for over 30 years. He was an avid organic gardener and a skilled carpenter and woodworker. He had a strong interest in the environment and human rights. Karl and Suzanne were long time members and instructors with the Taoist Tai Chi Society of Burlington. With many thanks and appreciation to Dr. Plach, musical therapist, Avalon and all the wonderful nurses at The Carpenter Hospice. There will be a private family service and once COVID restrictions have ended, there will be a celebration of life service. Funeral arrangements have been made through Smith's Funeral Homes (Guelph Line Chapel). In lieu of flowers, donations in Karl's memory may be made to The Carpenter Hospice or Greenpeace. www.smithsfh.com

Karl was my principal when I taught for the Wentworth School Board. He was a very quiet and private man but he was very fair with me and so I got off to a great start in my teaching career. I do remember that he would sometimes bring his small children to some of the events at Collegiate Avenue School in Stoney Creek. I always liked Karl (Mr. Eden to me) and I happened to be looking up another obituary when I came across his name so I was quite shocked. My condolences to his wife and family and I will keep him in my prayers. By the way, I am retired from thirty years of teaching and living in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Peggy (MacNeil) MacKinnon

Clearly, his was a life well lived. Although we did not know Karl personally we knew him indirectly through his daughter Susan and her husband Don - our nephew - and through Don and Susan’s children Robert and Valerie. We know that Karl loomed large in their lives and our sincere condolences go out them and his wife Suzanne. Love Ed and Lynda Turner.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Eden. I remember Mr. Eden as a very kind and soft spoken man. Our principal and teacher at Parkwood Public School in Woodburn, On when I was in grade 5 back in the 70’s. To be remembered so many years later speaks to the legacy he leaves as an educator. May you find comfort in your memories. He will be fondly remembered.
