My earliest memory of Jeanne was during an after-school visit to see Steve in 1968 when we were perhaps 10. I was heading home and as I came up the stairs from the basement I passed through the kitchen and the biggest kitchen table you ever saw on my way out the door. There were Sladek kids everywhere moving in every direction preparing for dinner and so many conversations and questions and Jeanne was leading it all. One of the kids was playing the piano adding to the commotion. Someone gave me a job and I fell in line and helped. I never saw anything like it-- and 50 years later I still recall that moment. Such a great family--such great parents in Jeanne and Ron. Miss those days.

Besides her family and religion nothing made Jeanne Sladek happier then making art and reflecting on the creative process. I loved seeing that twinkle in her eyes when we would discuss her own art work or together on a trip to the art museum in Reno looking at other work together. My thoughts are with the Sladek siblings this weekend remembering and reflecting.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Your mom was such a powerful, strong, grounded, beautiful woman. A real loss here on earth, but heaven is happy. I'm glad Steve and Gail were with her and that many of the rest of you had seen her so recently. Family was everything to her. I'm sure she was ready, and is now happily and lovingly reunited with your dad. Love and prayers,

To all the Sladek family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you during this tough time. In reading your mom's obituary, take comfort knowing she was at peace with her faith and has finally gone home.
