My condolences to Janet, Ariel and Tristan.
I have nothing but gratitude to and fond memories of Michael.
One of the first people I met and worked with when I moved to Cambridge in the early 1970's.
I met many wonderful people and ate much good food thanks to Michael.

I grew up w Michael Ivas. Not in the traditional sense of childhood friends or siblings, rather in a setting that challenged both of us during our careers at Panerabread. For 10 of my 16 years working there I was fortunate to have been able to share his company. Company that I cherished during our many work endeavors and long after I departed the company in 2011. Michael simply was himself all the time. No fronts, no gimmicks. He was shameless in his passion for life and the lessons it had to offer. Living to Michael was a sincere exchange of thoughts between people over a good meal, chance meeting or travel experience. He was humble when praised and always found a way to find solace in failure. His experience over the last few years while confonting health challenges changed nothing about the man who inspired me to drop my guard and take in life. The greatest things we tend to say about people when we loose them no doubt were written for Michael Ivas. The kind of person we hope to meet, are lucky to meet and are blessed to have met. I am a better man today simply because we crossed paths and I am honored to reflect on his uninhibited humanity.
A brother not forgotten he will always be. My heart is broken but memory of his spirit brings me joy. God bless my brother.

I was telling my son about Michael just recently. He used to sing all the time at Rosie's Bakery, making up silly words to songs on the radio. He always kept us amused and well fed. He was kind, thoughtful, funny and one of the best cooks I've ever known. My heartfelt condolences to you, Janet and your kids. Michael was one of a kind!

So sorry to hear about Michael's death. I worked for him at O'rears. He was a great Baker.
