Robert E. Brown Sr., 93, of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester, loving husband of 20 years of Holly (Grant) Brown passed away at home on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Brownie was born on Oct. 7, 1927, in Manchester, one of eight children of the late J. Seymour and Elsie (Reed) Brown. He was raised in Manchester, attended local schools and had been a lifelong resident until moving to South Windsor in 2020. He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1946. In his early years, Brownie took over J.S. Butter & Eggs from his father in 1947 peddling eggs as he called it, until 1973. He then worked for the former Miller Falls in Manchester. He later became the Owner/Operator of the Memorial Corner Store on Main street in Manchester until his retirement in 2018. Brownie enjoyed snow skiing, sailing and spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife Holly, he is survived by six children, Richard Brown and his wife, Janie and Debra Kapura and her husband, Gregory all of Manchester, Carole Sonick and her husband, Michael of Fairfield, Douggie Brown and his wife, Jadzia of Wolcott, Amanda Lewin and her husband, Shane of Coventry and Stacey Boisselle of Vernon; his daughter-in-law Annemarie Brown of Hebron; his sister Betty Peracchio of Coventry; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and their families; and many wonderful friends and customers. In addition to his parents, Brownie was predeceased by his son Robert E. Brown, Jr.; and his six siblings, Charles, Seymour, John, Eunice, Lucille and Margery.
Funeral services will be held at Ladd-Turkington and Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Vernon. Due to the pandemic services will be private for family only. There are no calling hours.

Back in the '60s when I visited with my Mom Genie, Mr. Brown showed me how to candle an egg. It was an unforgettable experience for a suburban 10 year old. My sympathies to his family.
