Ann Tisdale Obituary

Tisdale, Ann Howard Long-time Milwaukee area resident passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2018 at the age of 85. Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of over 40 years, Stuart. W. Tisdale, and her oldest son Peter G. Holan, and youngest son Bruce J. (Jessie) Holan. She is survived by her son Scott (Tena) Holan of Milwaukee, WI; her sister Barbara (James) Mihalke of Honolulu, HI; nephews Michael of Santa Monica, CA, William (Tiffany) of Honolulu, HI, and Nick, of Pittsburgh, PA. Ann is also survived by five step-children; Stuart Tisdale, of Portland, ME, Walter (Katie) Tisdale, of Bangor, ME, Malcolm (Kerrie) Tisdale, of Winnipeg, Canada, Andrew Tisdale (Nesrin), of London, England, and Ward Tisdale, of Austin TX. Ann is also survived by granddaughter Haley Holan, grandson Jared Holan, both of Shorewood, WI; grand-niece Amanda Mihalke and grand-nephew Dylan Milhake, both of Santa Monica, CA, and grand-niece Ella, of Honolulu, HI. Ann is further survived by many other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Ann was born on February, 1, 1933 in Bronxville, New York, and spent much of her youth in Montclair, New Jersey. She graduated from Smith College in 1955, and received a Master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 1985. Ann spent the early years of her career in the insurance industry, working for Union Mutual Life Insurance Co. and New York Life Insurance Co. She later followed her passions for education and children by working as an elementary school teacher in Auburn, NY and Summit, NJ. Ann loved her students and enjoyed sharing colorful stories of the things her students said and did. Ann was known for her dedication, passion, commitment, and love for her family. Nothing pleased Ann more than spending time with family, including her children and spouses, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Despite being surrounded by nine men (husband, three sons, and five step-sons) as she raised her family, Ann miraculously was able to maintain her sanity, always exhibited great strength, and out of necessity, developed an extraordinary sense of humor. Ann enjoyed travel and being outdoors, and loved fly-fishing with her late husband, Stu. Together they explored many rivers and streams, and were always thankful for those opportunities. Ann also enjoyed mountain climbing, and was proud of her successful ascent of the Grand Teton after she turned fifty years old. Ann also had a passion for the arts, and loved visiting museums when traveling, and loved attending the Lakefront Festival for the Arts every year, often with a grandchild in tow. Ann was very active in the community and worked tirelessly in a number of civic activities. She served as a Director and Board President for the Penfield Children's Center, was a member of the President's Council of Alverno College, served as a Director of Milwaukee Mental Health Consultants, and served as a Board Member of the Grand Avenue Club in Milwaukee, WI. Ann also worked for many years in support of the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, WI. Family will greet friends on Friday, August 10th, from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the Feerick Funeral Home, 2025 E. Capitol Dr., in Shorewood, WI. Memorials in Ann's name may be made to the Smith College Foundation, or the International Crane Foundation.

Just heard the sad news. I will never forget the fun we had during the last half of our senior years at Amherst and Smith. She was special.
