Chuck Burns came into our lives Xmas 1996, when my father died. He embraced us, even though we had never met before, were not members of his parish and it was the busy holiday season for him as a pastor. What an inspiring person he was and continues to be, so full of depth and devotion in spirit, artistry and intelligence. I will be forever inspired and touched by his presence in our lives. An absolutely dear human being he was. May his loved ones know the deep, powerful love and comfort he gave to complete strangers, like us. Extraordinary he was and joy would be holding him in our hearts and lives to reflect his beautiful light in this world . As long as this heart of mine beats, he lives on.

Fr. Burns was my high school guidance counselor at Marquette University High School and always had time to talk with me and guided me through many issues in my life. I even went back to visit him while I was in college. I ask him to be the presiding priest at my wedding and was so honored when he agreed to do it. I know heaven received another Angel when Chuck entered. I was honored to call him a friend.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Fr. Burns death. I met him as a Freshman at MUHS in 1972. I was a fierce supporter of Richard Nixon, and Fr. Chuck of course was the ultimate George McGovern fan. We fought like cats and dogs but always kept it civil. He taught me from a very young age to be be free with thought, but be informed and educated. He taught me respect and compassion as well. I later joked with him that we both had the same ultimate goals but thought our individual chosen paths to the said goal were obviously different, but just. He was one of the most compassionate individuals I have ever had the pleasure to know. He was also a devoted counselor that helped me through some dark periods in my life more than most would know. May he bask in the glory and unconditional love of our Savior and the eternal life he so richly deserves. I look forward to our political discussions when we meet again, providing he can bail me out one last time!!
