Claude has been my friend since the early 1980's. He and Shelly taught me Israeli Folk Dancing at UW-Madison's Hillel, and stood up for me at my elopement. I have been calling Shelly weekly since I learned of her illness, and I often spoke with Claude during those calls or just spoke with him if I failed to reach her. We shared many meals, conversations, and our love of dancing, music, and cats. Claude and Shelly were also generous in their hospitality; I stayed in their spare bedroom on multiple occasions and was able to host Claude at my house in return. His devotion to Shelly during her illness spoke well of his kind heart. I will miss him.

It's a shock to hear that Claude has left this circle of life. Memories of him are full of life, laughter, jokes, caring and consideration. He was true to his beliefs and let them guide his actions. When living at Nottingham Coop with him and 20+ other like-minded people, his spirit and smile were always strongly present....he felt things deeply. Sympathies to his life companion, Shelly, and the familes of both Claude and Shelly. I thank Claude for being a part of the friendships in my life that bring a true smile and feelings of awe.

The news of Claude's death came as a shock. It is consoling to know, though, that he passed away peacefully in his sleep. I had known Claude since 1978, when we lived together in Nottingham Co-op in Madison, WI, where I appreciated his sense of communal responsibility. A free spirit, Claude followed his own drummer, which I admired in him.
Claude, you are dearly missed!
May the force be with you,
Your friend Axel

Although I hadn't seen Claude in a couple of years, it was a shock to learn of his passing because he has always been so vibrant and engaged in life. I appreciated his attentiveness in conversation and the sense of joy he had about life and it's possibilities. For me, thinking of Claude is like remembering a sunny day.
