Duffey, Atty. Thomas J. Child of the Depression, veteran of the Navy, member of the Bar, servant of the public and patriarch to generations of Duffeys, Thomas J. Duffey was a man of deep faith who went to his Heaven on a Sunday morning, December 18, 2016, and is now reunited with his beloved wife of 56 years, Joanne. His career was a remarkable American journey through government and labor law, but his journey always brought him home to his true life's work, his family. He is missed, celebrated and survived by his nine loving children, Joseph (Trish), Maureen (Hugh) Nelson, Thomas (Eileen), Monica, Tessa (John) Gingrass, Anne (Andrew) Bolles, Katie (Dave) Moore, Daniel (Kristin), and Peter (Mary Pat), his 21 cherished grandchildren, Michael (Morgan), Erin (Matt) and Matt (Erika) Duffey, Molly (Pat) and Charles Nelson, John (Ellie), Kevin (Jane), Patrick (Christine) and Tommy (Jordan) Duffey, Colette (Daniel), Jack and Drew Gingrass, Willy, A.J., and Charlie Bolles, Melanie and Jack Moore, Ryan and Sean Duffey, and Margaret and Dylan Duffey, and his six adored great-grandchildren, Will, Caroline, Natalie, Ericka, Teddy and Agnes. Thomas will be further remembered by other relatives, friends and colleagues. He was born on December 26th, 1927, graduated from Marquette University High School, enlisted in the Navy at 17, and after the war received his undergraduate and law degrees from Marquette University, making him, in the jargon of Marquette, "a Loyal 3M'r." It was also at Marquette that he met Joanne, and he later described the day they married as the happiest moment of his life. "All that followed," he said, "followed from that bond." Visitation will take place on what would have been his 89th birthday, Monday, December 26, 2016, beginning at 3:00 PM at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 734 Glenview Ave., Wauwatosa, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 5:00 PM. Private burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Thomas' name may be given to St. Coletta of Wisconsin, W4955 Highway 18, Jefferson, Wisconsin 53549.

My sympathy to the Duffey family on the death of their patriarch. I grew up on 34th street (daughter of Jack and Thelma Greene) in the late 40's and 50's and remember how highly respected the Duffey family was at that time. It seems Tom carried on in the same manner. May the wonderful memories sustain you.
Sincerely,
Martha (Greene) Rutkofske

Dear Duffy Family,
I am sending love and prayers to your entire family.
Your mother and father were great friends of my mom and dad and they were a part of my happy childhood memories. I last saw your dad at my father's memorial service in August, he was a great gentleman and spoke so fondly of my father in his wonderful and warm way.
Now our dads are reunited with our lovely moms in heaven, they are probably having a little party and wishing us all well.
God bless you,
Ann Reifenrath Walters

Much love to the Duffey family from the Herzog family. Our bond was formed early, starting with Mary Alice and Bob Herzog and Joanne and Tom Duffey. Wonderful memories began for all 19 of the kids in both families. And will never be forgotten. Our sympathies to you all.

Dear Members of the Duffey Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you upon the passing of your father/grand & great grandfather. I don't have to tell you that Tom was a wonderful person in many ways. You as a family were truly blessed to have had Tom and Joanne as parents. Not only did they rear you with a deep faith in God but also instilled in you the importance of justice, respect and love for the less fortunate. This is a man who when he met our God was told; "Welcome! You good and faithful servant!" He is now at peace with Joanne and all who have gone before him. It is our faith that summons us to believe that Tom's "life is simply changed not ended." I hold you in prayer.
In the Risen Christ,
Fr. Marv Knighton
