Renz, David "Dave" 3/21/1951 - 7/29/2020 Hickory Corners, MI & Miromar Lakes, FL David "Dave" Renz, 69, of Hickory Corners, MI and Miromar Lakes, FL, died at home surrounded by his loving family on July 29th after a brief battle with cancer. Dave grew up in Muncie, IN and graduated from Ball State University. He worked at Eaton Corporation in Galesburg, MI for more than 30 years, retiring in December 2009 from the role of VP Sales and Marketing for the Vehicle Group. Dave was proud of the fact that he started his career as a management trainee working on the assembly floor, and ascended, through hard work and principled leadership, all the way to the executive suite. He served as an advisor to Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business, was Director-at-Large for the board of NationaLease, and is a past board member of the Truck Rental and Leasing Association (TRALA). He was an avid golfer, road cyclist, and lifetime fitness devotee. He enjoyed boat rides on Gull Lake with Carol, his wife of 39 years, and their children and grandchildren. Dave was preceded by his mother, Grace Downing Renz, and his father, Wilbur Renz. Dave leaves behind a grieving family who cherished every minute they had with him: wife, Carol Redenius Renz; daughter, Amanda Clayman (Greg Clayman) of Los Angeles, CA; son, Andrew Renz (Melissa Jett Renz) of Saline, MI; grandchildren, Alexandra and Olivia Clayman, Charlie Grace and Parker Rey Renz; siblings, Steve Renz (Marlene Renz) and Sue Renz Brooke (John Brooke) and their children. Also the extended Renz and Redenius families. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: Make-a-Wish Foundation (an organization that Dave supported over the years through fundraising and advocacy), The Gilmore Classic Car Museum, or the Gull Lake Community Schools Foundation. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Personal messages for the family and/or favorite memories of Dave may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.

My sincerest condolences from our entire family. Dave had such an impact on me personally and professionally and I will miss him greatly. He was a mentor, confidant, and a friend to all of us at NationaLease and his time as the only Chairman in NTLA Board history who did not own a NTLA Leasing Business in its 76 year history will always be appreciated and recognized as having a great impact on our organization. While I loved talking business with him I am really going to miss talking Big 10 basketball and will cherish the time we spent going to the Big 10 tournament "talking business" a few years ago.

Brian and I have many memories of dinners and evenings at Gull Lake...Dave was unfailingly kind, and his gentle sense of humor was always evident. He was a leader of humility, self-effacing and warm, always making us feel comfortable and welcome. Carol, your love story with Dave will live on, and we hope that your memories and knowledge that you gave him vibrant love to the end will ease your heart a bit. We love you, and we'll stay in touch.

Dave was an outstanding person in many respects. To me, he was a great boss and friend for many years at Eaton Corporation. Dave was an exceptional leader who used insight, fairness and integrity in his dealings, both with internal personnel as well as our valued customers. He was an easy person to speak with, and despite being a very successful and busy executive, he always found time to discuss important issues and was a thoughtful listener. I also know he loved his family, and despite a heavy international travel schedule, he was always striving to return home and be his his family.

Oh, David, you left us much too soon. 35 years as professional acquaintances, 20+ as friends, and being able to spend time in Florida has been a blessing, these past few years.

A vast and admiring group of friends mourn your passing, and extend their deepest sympathies to Carol, Amanda, Andrew, and their families, in this most difficult time. Ride fast, and free, my friend, in a better place. You are sadly missed.
