So many of my elementary school memories are of the programs Mrs. Unkel would put together. She was an amazing teacher who made a huge impact on her community. Hugs and prayers to her family. May she Rest in Peace.

So very sad to lose Diana already at 65. So much talent, & a delightful friend all these years teaching music in Derby Elem & 6th grade center. She died too young. Lord knows we all love her & always will.

I am saddened to hear Mrs. Unkel has passed. She was my music teacher at Swaney Elementary from 1975-1980. She was one of my favorites. Music class was so special because of her. I remember the pageant for the American Bicentennial that she directed in 1976. My class (the second graders) donned period clothing and white powdered wigs and we danced the Minuet. Another class sang "Bicycle Built for Two" and a couple of kids rode one while they sang it. She was so gifted and creative. And she always made me feel safe and appreciated. I also remember hearing the music piece "Popcorn" on the record player (now I'm dating myself!) in her music room for the first time. She was also a fan of the Carpenters and she taught us "Close to You" and the song, that to this day, when I hear it, I think immediately (and will continue to do so) of her. Now she's on top of the world looking down on creation. May her memory always be for a blessing.
