Woody was one of my favorites while working at Catholic Care. He had a smile that was contagious. It was always a joy to watch him dance around and sing. He was always trying to involve the other residents during activities. He will be missed deeply.

I'm saddened to hear of Woody's loss. I didn't get to know him well before he got the Alzheimer's diagnosis, but I do have some good memories of him from church. On one occasion, the minister had mentioned that the church could use some attention, particularly a door that had a lot of chipped paint. A few days later, I stopped by the church, and there was Woody, painting the door. In spite of his illness, it was apparent that he continued to be a sweet-natured person by the way he greeted me when he came to church, even though he didn't know who I was. Our condolences to his loved ones. Your lives reflect the kind of father he must have been.

For Woody, my Dear Father-in-law:

As I remember Woody's life and the privilege to have known him, I will cherish the memories. Though Alzheimer's disease affected many aspects of his life, who he was, still shined through --- a gentle and quiet spirit.

Now Woody gets to shed that disease that impacted him. For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (II Corinthians 5:1)

Rest Elwood, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.

Thank you for your service to this nation.
