Grandpa Tom,

THANK YOU!!!! Distance is often a relationships worst nightmare, and even though we spent my entire life hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles apart, you never let distance prevent your love and affection from reaching our family. Hearing Grandpa Tom is coming was always super exciting because we knew it meant funny jokes, silly voices, and fancy dinners. You pushed us to express ourselves in ways we had no idea we could, like when Kyle and I had a freestyle rap battle in our living room in New York using that cheap kids keyboard to drop the beat. THANK YOU!!! You made me feel like a child celebrity when you took me to the toy store in Connecticut and told me to pick out anything I wanted, and you made a movie out of it. I will forever get embarrassed when I hear the song he's so fine. You sent Kyle
a huge poster picture of the giant bass he caught when you took us fishing on the golf course. One of Kyle and I's most cherished memories, and to this day we have yet to catch one bigger. You and grandma sent Kayla a huge fancy jewelry box, full of old jewelry, that she and her friends played with for years. You made a kids educational video using a cropped picture of Kiefer's face that made him seem like the coolest kid in the world. He too will forever be embarrassed when he hears us say Keefer!! THANK YOU!!
Words can't express how awesome it was that you took all of us grandkids on vacation when we turned 11. Never in my life did I dream I would get to swim with sea turtles and blowfish or feed stingrays at a tropical beach, far from home. I'll never forget how quickly you took me to buy a new camera when I foolishly let a wave splash up on my legs and ruin the camera I brought within 20 minutes of being there. Eating seafood every night was like a dream come true, and I will forever have a spot in my heart for Rum Cake. THANK YOU!!! You and Corey had a special connection from the first time you met. You two are so much alike. You both march to the beat of your own drum and are never afraid to truly express yourselves, even if it means slightly embarrassing everyone around you. It melts my heart hearing him talk about you and I'm so thankful he had a chance to have you in his life.
Towards the end when your health was getting bad and grandma got to take a break with her girls on her cruise, I was honored to come stay with you. I could see in your eyes the embarrassment you felt about me having to take care of you, but I didn't care. You, Corey, and I hung out like best buds. We still went out to eat, went for a walk, and went to the movies to see Paranorman... and sported our 3-D glasses like rock stars. Luckily I was blessed with patience, and even though you thought you were a burden to us, I would carry you until my arms fell off because that would still be just a fraction of the selflessness you showed us. I still find it amusing that you got jealous that we had nicknames for our other grandparents in New York. But the truth is you didn't need a nickname... simply Grandpa Tom was amazing enough. Rest In Peace grandpa and know that you will forever be loved and missed.
