Oberley, David R. 78, passed away January 23, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. David was born December 19, 1939 in Pittsburg Kansas to George and Helen "Brown" Oberley. David lived in Ness City most of his adult life, then moved to Carthage in 2001. He served in the United States Army Reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He taught high school for over 40 years and was a member of the Dodge City Diocesan School Board. David served on numerous church boards and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City. David was united in marriage to Evelyn M. "Batt" June 1, 1963 in Fowler, Kansas; she preceded him in death January 4, 2001. He was then united in marriage to Sandra "Dillion" on October 4, 2002 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City; she survives. David is survived by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Lisa Babbidge (Chris) and Carla Green (Corey), both of Wichita, KS; four sons, Terry Oberley (Donna) of Dodge City, KS, Mark Oberley (Leah) of Virginia Beach, VA, Alan Oberley (Vonnie) of Clearwater, KS and Luke Oberley of Kinsley, KS; two step-sons, John Motazedi (Renee) of Joplin, MO and Dean Motazedi (Tammy) of Broken Arrow, OK; 32 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and six step-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Flinn (Don) of Gladstone, MO. David is preceded in death by one brother, George Oberley. Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018, with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City.Mass will also be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ness City, Kansas. Contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Webb City or Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund of Ness City, in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. I am sorry to hear off Davids Passing. He was a great teacher of mine in high school in the seventies and I admired his teaching style.My prayers go out to his family may he rest in peace.
