Our beloved Amy Crowder,
Is still in my head, on my Facebook profile I saved the pictures that fans of Amy Crowder still will remember.
Her death has left a deep impression on us, but with great pleasure I read all the fine posts on this blog, of all the people who have known Amy often personally. Unfortunately I have never taken the chance to actually meet her.
Well I think she greatly enjoyed life, because all her pictures is Amy Crowder to see with a broad smile. As if she would say "Dear people grieve not for me ....."
Dear Amy, I will never forget you, for sure I will write again on this blog.
Again and again and again.....

HERE'S ONE FOR YOU....
"WAISTED, THE PERFECT 10"
In my corset I
Feel thin and lean
My waist is constricted
Without any pain
Down to a 22 from
A 26 inch waist
Inch by inch as I
am tightly laced
Around my body it
Is snug and warm
Squeezing firmly like
A silk stalking glove
It Defines the curves,
smoothes out lumps,
Especially if you have
Junk in your trunk
Reshaping my form
And reducing my waist
Creating an illusion of
the perfect barbie frame
I Walk proud and I
Stand tall this corset
I wear Is the cause
of it all
I glow with radiance
And sex appeal
causing not just men
but the girls to stare
So next time you see
A perfect ten stroll bye
you might find yourself
Staring because you are
mesmerized
if this happens don't
hesitate to tell her she
looks good with a
Corseted waist

you do not know me but i have just come across the news of this horrible tragedy and i was crushed, emotional for about fifteen min let me tell you why...as an underdog corsetiere starting out in the field you were the inspiration that would keep me going through the trials and errors in those first few years. I finally became good enough and opened my business in 2006, and because i would visit your site so much just reading and trying to mimic your quality..i feel like i like we had something in common. Anyway, as a fellow corsetiere i will never forget the inspiration you have been in my success..RIP Amy...."corsetfitz" fine corsets

I met Amy when we both lived in Milwaukee, WI in 1998 - she had her WASP Creations company, she also had a boyfriend who worked at the Milwaukee Reporatory Theater, and I had my data entry job at a postal supplies company. I brought Amy to my company Christmas party. The following summer she moved back to Kansas City - I called her a couple times, but I guess she had a busy life. I didn't know about her passing until today. She was so beautiful - I miss her..

It's been a year and our Amy is so missed. Recently it was my daughter's 1st birthday which is a happy day but also a very sad day for me knowing it was the last day that my sister was here with us. I feel like she is with me so many times helping pull me through. I love and miss her so much.
There's a line in a county song If Heaven Wasn't so Far by Justin Moore. "If heaven wasn't so far away I'd pack up the kids and go for the day".
Amy I would be there in an instant.
I see you in Ryan everyday, looks and talent. He love's his bike and the tricks. I wish you could have showed him a few things.
I love you
Until I see you again......

Probably one of the very best websites devoted to corsetry; the 'kowledge' therein gave me so much evidence and help with a subject that really did need her profound expertise and practical knowledge of her craft. Not only did she make corsets - she dempnstrated tham by wearing them all day - and maybe more.
She is truly missed and quite irreplaceable. She made three for me and I treasure them.

I started dating Amy shortly before her 26th birthday. We celebrated her Golden birthday in Kansas City with a night out, a movie, and some homemade chocolate birthday cake. We spent the better part of the next 9 years together. She was a very special and amazing chapter in my life and on this what would have been her 40th I pause to remember the time we had together.

Two days ago I found out that you had passed from this world Amy. My heart saddened when I found this out. I'm 16, living in the south, I'm also male and tightlace daily. I had heard of you, a corset making legend, who was known for her kindness and good heart as much as for your skill. I'm so sorry I never got to speak with you, and that the world has lost such an artist. I'm sorry for those you leave behind as well, their loss is the hardest of all.
Peace to you, and peace to your family.

This is Amy's mother and I want to thank every one who has posted such lovely comments and to know how very much they mean to me, my husband and Amy's sister Jenny.
She has been gone over a month now and it is still so hard to know that I cannot speak to her or see her again. It helps to know that she was loved and respected by so many people.
I have received many emails and a few phone calls regarding her cause of death. We are still waiting on the results from the medical examiner and I am told I should have the report by the end of July.
Again, I want to thank everyone for their concern but some of the emails and phone calls I have gotten have been very upsetting to me. I'm sure you mean well but how Amy died is on my mind 24 hours a day and believe me, I want to know more than any one else how Amy died.
Now is the time for positive thoughts and sincere wishes, that is what I need most.

I never met Amy, nor did business with her--I'm just a stray person off the Internet who knew about her website and thought that maybe one day I'd get around to ordering a corset from her--and always I thought there would be plenty of time in which to do that. So I am shocked and dismayed to hear of her passing.
I didn't know Amy personally, but the personality that shone through on her website made me wish I did. She struck me as warm, genuine, fun, and enthusiastic about her work. And I truly admired her too. Marching to the beat of her own drummer, embracing something she loved despite its "weirdness," and building a successful business out of it? That took a hell of a lot of guts.
So I've always been inspired by Amy's example; she's always been someone I could look at and say to myself, "Look at her! You think you can't do your own thing because it's too "different"? She's doing hers! And isn't it wonderful?"
To the people who actually knew her, and who loved her, I want to extend my sincerest condolences. If I--a random Internet stranger--am this sad at hearing about her death over a month after the fact, I can only imagine what her loss must be like for her family and friends. She was truly amazing, and my heart goes out to you all.

Amy has been an inspiration of mine since I first discovered her corset web site over 10 years ago. When I attended FIDM, I did several research reports, using her web site as my main source of information on tight-lacing and waist training. Her work was a major inspiration when I started making corsets professionally. She was always friendly and gracious in our brief email correspondences. We shared many clients, and I have always had a tremendous respect for her. Being in the same, small, unusual industry of custom corsetry, I have always felt a bond with Amy (as I do with all talented, professional corsetieres).
I have some health concerns and have always been plagued with worries of what might become of my clients, in the event that something should happen to me that prevents me from finishing outstanding orders that have been paid for. For this reason, I offer my free services to her husband, to aid in the completion of any outstanding orders. I am fully booked at this time, but will be available beginning September. I do not seek new clients, or compensation. I simply wish to relieve the family of financial obligation to clients who have paid. I am not skilled in leather work (as I am vegan) or pvc, but I am willing to help where I can, free of charge.

Needless to say, when I heard of Ms. Amy Crowder's death I was shocked. I had the great fortune of knowing Ms. Amy Crowder through my interest in waist training. Over the years, I've purchased four corsets from her. My last one is a black leather corset which had been shipped on 08 April 2010. I still have the box. Of course it is beautiful, like the ones before. I have to say that Ms. Amy Crowder was a fine designer and craftsman. The corsets which she had made for me endured a lot of use and the construction stood up to the rigors of daily use.
I did meet with Ms. Amy on one occasion when she had her studio in York, Pennsylvania. She was kind enough to give me money for the parking meter. Inside, she measured me for a new corset. I viewed some of her latest designs and was really taken with a black material that just looked great. Immediately I knew that was the material I wanted for my next corset. She talked about new designs for corsets that would be comfortable to wear while working or exercising. It was a great time for me: to have met Ms. Amy Crowder, and seen her workshop and speak with a true artisan is a memory I will always cherish.
My heart goes out to Ms. Amy Crowder's family for their terrible loss. Their loss is shared by a much larger community. Thank you Ms. Amy Crowder for being who you were, and for your tremendous and incomparable contribution to the waist training community.
Sincerely,
John Mastalski

To say that I was shocked by the news of Amy's passing would be an understatememt. While I had never met Amy in person I had know about her for years. What brought her into my life was her passion for bicycles and bicycle riding. It was easy to tell from our conversations that she was an energetic, enthusiatic, intellegent and incredibly talented individual. She lived her life the way that she wanted to live it, as it should be done...I wish I could be as brave as she was. My life was truly enriched by getting to know what little of her that I did. My deepest sympathies for her family, as there is nothing worse than loosing a child or a sibling. Even though I am not very religious, the creator felt a need to take her from this world when he/she did. Amy will be missed by many people from different walks of life. We have all been diminished through loosing her. I had been putting the bug in her ear about attending he North American Handbuilt Bicycle show some day, since she appreciated finely, uniquely hand crafted things. Now at least she will be there in spirit. Good bye Amy

I just learned of this site this morning. I met Amy at a conference last year and was impressed with her beautiful, gracious spirit. Just recently, I ordered a corset from her. She was so kind, patient and technically competent as she answered all of my questions and guided me through designing the corset. I am very sad that I will never see Amy again. But I am especially sad for her family and those who knew her well. Such a unique, kind soul, she was.

I was stunned to hear about Amy's passing. The world greatly will miss this wonderful person and artisan. As one of her earliest customers, she liked to tell me that I was her third internet customer, I know how hard she worked at her love of the corset. I looked forward to her periodic website updates and corset innovations. Her corsets and waist training advice have helped me through greatly improved posture, diet and exercise habits. My memories will include the several personal meetings for fittings and the advice between them. Each time I wear one of her corsets in the future, I be thinking of her and treasure the memories. I also hope that her business will continue and that an aspiring or established corsetiere gains the benefit of her dozen years of experience.

Having talked with Amy twice in early May, I was shocked to hear of her death. It was yesterday May 29th that I became aware of it. I considered her the best corsetier in the USA!. Her knowledge of anatomy was superior. I can only hope one of her assistants can carry on her superior work. A note to her mother and family: I to lost a daughter 14 months ago. She was in practice for 21 years with me and she was the best in her field just like Amy. I have very few comforting words to write to you as this is such a horrible situation. Amy was a sweet, extremely understanding person whose work put to shame any type of surgical garment makers. For me she helped me with my back problem of Ankylosing Spondlysis. She improved my life quality a great deal and I will always be thankful for her help! My deepest regrets Milton Simmons M.D. ABFP Asst. Clinical Professor Wayne St Med. Southfield, Michigan
