What an honor it was to work with Dr. Calico on his memoir, Out of the Blue. Even while facing two bone marrow transplants as well as the loss of his voice for a long period of time between transplants, Dr. Calico faithfully labored to get his life story in print. Email became our communication tool--and there were many emails.

After his voice returned, he invited me to travel with him and Pat to visit the area where he grew up and to reminisce about his early childhood experiences. I shall always treasure those moments.

Intelligent beyond measure. Pride in his wife and her accomplishments. Pride in his son and daughter and their spouses and their accomplishments. Love for his grandchildren, to whom he dedicated his memoir. Curious. Honest. Transparent. These are words that describe the Dr. Calico I came to know and greatly admire.

Prayers for the Calico family.
Dr. Calico was one of the nicest, most caring people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was a true humanitarian who went above & beyond to help my daughter & other young individuals in their quest for medical education & knowledge. Learning this leaves me with such a heavy heart, the world has lost a fine, upstanding gentleman & he will be greatly missed.

I must say that Forrest was an example of how far a person can go in this life with determination to achieve your goals and dedication to your work...along with all he accomplished he remained "simply Forrest. I am so proud to call him my brother-in law!
