Whitney: It still just doesn't seem real that your Dad, my dear friend Jimmy is gone. I wanted to leave this sooner, but it has been hard to come up with the right words.
I first met Jimmy several years ago at a UK Baseball game. We just seemed to hit it off with our mutual love of baseball and UK sports. As anyone who knew Jimmy would agree, he was just a nice and fun person to be around. Since I was retired like Jimmy, I became his go to guy for a lot of the 9pm UK basketball games. I also got to take Jimmy to a few Cincinnati Reds games. We always had a blast going to Cincy. The last UK game I got to attend with Jimmy was on his Birthday. I met him for dinner and then we were off to the game. At a game earlier this year, I had told Jimmy about a trip I took to AL & FL. I was telling him about seeing the Boll Weevil Statue in AL. He had never heard of it, but he knew of the Boll Weevil song. I said there is a song? He told me it came out about 1961 and he had it on a 45 and it was worn out. So after doing some research I found the Brook Benton Boll Weevil song. I bought a couple of CD's so I could surprise Jimmy when I saw him again. It just so happened it was the night of his Birthday. I showed him some pictures I took of the statue and as anyone who knew Jimmy could guess, he laughed out loud and said that is hilarious! So the very last time I saw Jimmy was when he dropped me at my car after the game on his Birthday. We shook hands and he was taking the wrapper off the CD and said he was going to listen to the Boll Weevil song on the way home. To me that is a fitting way to have a final memory of my friend Jimmy.
Whitney I never got to meet you, but I know your Dad loved you so much. In fact each time I saw him he always was talking about you. He was so proud of you and was proud of your new position with Vanderbilt too. I thought this would be a appropriate night to write my memories of Jimmy. Since we are winding down National Margarita Day! I am sure my man Jimmy enjoyed Margarita Day with the other Big Blue Fans in Heaven. :) Plus UK's main rival just got beat at Carolina. Pitino turned on a UNC student who yelled something at him and they had to hold Pitino back. I can just hear Jimmy saying, That's Hilarious! Rest In Peace my Friend! I am a better man for knowing you and the world was a better place for having you in it!

My deepest sympathy to his daughter and family. Jimmy was a joy to work with and always good for a laugh; making our days at work more enjoyable. You will be missed friend!
