I have never known life without Clay in it.
Our families have been close friends since early childhood and we are the same age and went to the same high school, where we became even closer friends, apart from our families.
He took me to Junior Prom and I was so touched when I found out that not only did I still have the picture (done by a truly inept photographer) from that occasion, but that he had kept it too!
Both of us left Lexington for college and we had separate lives, but we stayed in "Christmas card contact" for many years, and would see each other during holidays back in Lexington.
I will never forget his gift to my first child upon his birth, a copy of "Where the Wild Things Are", by Maurice Sendak, one of the best children's books of all time, in my opinion.
I still have it.
Upon my recent return to Lexington, I was so looking forward to renewing our relationship.
He was ever thoughtful, kind, and acerbic of wit, a true friend and gentleman in every positive way.
My heart is broken at his loss.

It was a pleasure.

Genuinely kind person, always friendly, with a great "dry" wit, someone who comes to mind even though we had infrequent contact. Will be missed.

Without doubt, Clay was the consummate gentleman and always made you laugh. Something rarely seen or heard of anymore. You left us too young and you will be greatly missed by all who knew you, Clay.
