MARCINIAK Ewa J, 89, passed away on December 2, 2015 at her residence in Lexington, KY. Dr. Marciniak was born in Lwow, Poland in 1926. She was educated in Poland at the Medical College in Wroclaw where she received both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a PhD for her research in hematology. She came to the United States in the mid 1960's as a Rockefeller Foundation Fellow to continue her research at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. In 1969, Dr. Marciniak was appointed to the faculty of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where she taught and inspired physicians and scientists to a high standard of excellence. One colleague remembers "she spoke sharp words jokingly" and with a wonderful smile. Ewa was predeceased by her parents and brother, Roman Marciniak, in Poland. She is survived by devoted friends, Bill and Susan Peterson and their children and grandchildren and her caregiver Catherine Johnson. Dr. Marciniak was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish, the Newman Center, in Lexington, KY. A funeral Mass will be held at the Newman Center on Monday, January 4th, 2016 at 12 o'clock noon with burial following at Calvary Cemetery. Milward Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
